PGCBL Players of the Night: July 10

Throughout the season, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will be recognizing a Player and Pitcher of the Night on each game day.

Player of the Night: Andrew Bacon, Watertown (Northern Kentucky)

Despite falling 13-10 to the Adirondack Trail Blazers in Boonville, Bacon had a season-best day for the Watertown Rapids. The infielder recorded a double, a triple, and a home run, driving in five of Watertown's ten runs and scoring twice. Bacon belted a solo home run in the top of the first inning, drove in two more runs on a triple in the fourth inning, and added a leadoff double in the top of the eighth. The five-RBI performance marked the most in a game for Bacon this season, and was the second night in a row where the Cincinnati native had driven in a run. Bacon has nearly doubled his RBI total in the past two games, driving in six of his 13 runs since Sunday.

Pitcher of the Night: Jon Hardy, Mohawk Valley (Mohawk Valley CC)

Hardy entered Tuesday night's game with the Albany Dutchmen in the second inning with the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs trailing 4-0. When he exited, the Dawgs held a 6-5 lead that would hold up in Mohawk Valley's 8-7 triumph. In his five innings on the mound, the Mohawk Valley CC product allowed just one run on three hits, and struck out four Albany hitters. Hardy tossed 33 of his 51 pitches for strikes, and only walked two batters. The victory was Hardy's first of the season, and was the first time this season that the Clinton, New York native had pitched for longer than two innings. The outing marked season highs in innings pitched, batters faced, and strikeouts.
