Jamestown Returns to PGCBL: Name-the-Team Contest Underway

JAMESTOWN, N.Y.- The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce that Jamestown will again be home to a PGCBL team for the 2020 season.

After spending the 2019 season on voluntary suspension, Jamestown will return as a full member for the 2020 season. The team's reactivation was spearheaded by a new local ownership group, Jamestown Community Baseball LLC. The team's baseball leadership group will also include new general manager Frank Fanning and manager Jordan Basile, who also serves as the head coach at Jamestown Community College.

In a press release announcing the team's return to the league, Dr. George Carlo, a partner in Jamestown Community Baseball LLC, stated the team plans to be a destination for top players from across the nation.

“Our plan is to establish the (team) not only as a competitive team, but as a player development summer destination for rising college players,” Carlo said in a press release. “We will focus on improving not only baseball skills, but also mental skills, physical training, tools for energy management, nutrition, sleep, (and) repair and recovery. In short, those things that players will need to succeed at the professional level. Our recruiting of players from across the country ... will be based on that.”

In three previous seasons in the PGCBL, Jamestown has been to PGCBL Playoffs in each season, which includes a West Division championship in 2017 and a PGCBL title in 2018.

As they did in their first three seasons in the league, Jamestown will play at Russell E. Diethrick Park. A deal was signed in June that guarantees the park will remain the home of Jamestown's PGCBL franchise through the 2025 season, at minimum.

In conjunction with the return of the Jamestown franchise to the PGCBL, the team will have a new identity for the 2020 season. The franchise is currently in the midst of a name-the-team contest, which will include a new team name, new colors, new uniforms, and a new mascot.

Fanning told the Jamestown Post-Journal that the new identity will allow the former Jammers to carve out a unique place in the summer baseball landscape.

“When you design something that looks very cool, you’re going to get that weird niche and you’re also going to get the people that are in this area that are going to love it,” Fanning said.

Fanning added that the name-the-team contest will allow the Jamestown community to feel even more connected with the team by picking a brand new identity.

“This is a new chapter in Jamestown baseball. I think people are going to love whatever we come up with, because it’s going to be their choice, too.”

Fans interested in entering the contest can do so at JamestownJammers.org. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, uniqueness, regional relevance, and appropriateness for audience. The winning entry will be awarded two season ticket packages for life, a personalized jersey, the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at some point in the 2020 season, as well as gear with their team's name on it.
