The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce its 2012 All-League and Rising Stars teams.

The postseason all-star squads, compiled by the league office, boast players from all nine league teams including PGCBL Player of the Year Ross Kivett (Kansas State) of the Glens Falls Golden Eagles and PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky) from the Amsterdam Mohawks.

The Rising Stars team is an “All-Freshman” team that is limited to players listed as collegiate freshmen, redshirt freshman or high school seniors for the 2011-2012 baseball season. Only redshirt freshmen no more than two years removed from their high school graduation were considered.

Twelve players selected for the Rising Stars team were also part of the all-league team. Players named to both squads include Amsterdam’s Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky), Rocky McCord (Auburn) and Ed Charlton (NJIT), Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern), Mike Vigliarolo (Saint Louis) and Brandon Magallones (Northwestern) of Glens Falls, Albany’s Trevor Lacosse (Bryant), Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina-2012-13) and David Stagg (Heartland C.C.), Oneonta’s Sheldon Lee (U. San Francisco), Mohawk Valley’s John Means (Fort Scott C.C.) and Elmira’s Zac Bellinger (Virginia Commonwealth).

The league champion Amsterdam Mohawks, who finished the summer ranked third in the country, topped the All-PGCBL and Rising Stars teams with 10 selections. Amsterdam all-league picks included first team choices Chandler Shepherd (Kentucky), Rocky McCord (Auburn), Ed Charlton (NJIT), Zak Colby (Faulkner) and Chase Green (SIU Edwardsville) and second team honorees Mark Leiter Jr. (NJIT) and Evan Stephens (Wake Forest). Mohawks named only to the Rising Stars team were Jeff Boehm (Kentucky), Chase Williamson (Auburn) and Matt Pirro (Wake Forest).

Amsterdam’s rival and opening round playoff opponent, Mohawk Valley, matched the league champions with seven all-league nods. Chris Cruz (Cornell) and Tyler Heck (Union, N.Y.) were the DiamondDawgs on the All-PGCBL first team while starting pitchers Joe Michaud (Bryant) and John Means (Fort Scott C.C.), first baseman Jack Morrow (Young Harris), outfielder Mark Stuckey (Marist) and designated hitter Eric Helmrich (Marist) were tapped to the second team. Mohawk Valley relievers Taylor Wright (Brown) and Aaron Casper (Canisius) were both chosen for the Rising Stars team.

Six members of the second place Glens Falls Golden Eagles were picked for the all-league squad. PGCBL Player of the Year Ross Kivett (Kansas State), Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern) and Mike Vigliarolo (Saint Louis) were all first-team honorees while Brandon Magallones (Northwestern), Danny Brennan (Saint Louis) and Alberto Morales (Clarendon) made the All-PGCBL second team. Utility player Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) earned a spot on the Rising Stars squad as did closer Jared Cheek (Georgia Southern).

Last summer, Newark led all league teams with eight players on the All-PGCBL side. This year, five Pilots populate the all-league selections. Third baseman Joe Landi (Rhode Island) and starting pitcher Daniel Thorpe (Saint Joseph’s, Pa.) represented the Pilots on the first team and Newark players on the second team included infielders Brent Langston (Delta State), Josh Crowdus (Delta State) and Josh Perez (Mississippi College).

Watertown’s Donald Walter (Cal Poly Pomona) was one of three outfielders named to the All-PGCBL first team. Fellow Wizard Rene Solis (St. Mary’s, Texas) earned a first team slot as one of five starting pitchers. Teammates Jonathan Perez (St. Mary’s, Texas) and Jordan Enos (Holy Cross) were tapped for the all-league second team. Watertown utility player Cole Gleason (Wabash Valley) made the PGCBL Rising Stars team.

The Oneonta Outlaws and the Albany Dutchmen each had three selections each to the all-league team. Oneonta’s Sheldon Lee (U. San Francisco), Shane Crain (Louisville) and Zac Johnson (Illinois State) were honored as were Albany’s Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina-2012-2013), David Stagg (Heartland C.C.) and Trevor Lacosse (Bryant). In addition, Oneonta had six other standouts named to the Rising Stars team. The young Outlaws that earned Rising Stars accolades included Omar Garcia (State College of Florida), Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida), Logan Brown (Baylor), Zach Lucas (Louisville), Zander Wiel (Vanderbilt) and Jeremy Rhoades (Illinois State).

Rounding out the all-league teams, Elmira’s Zac Bellinger (VCU) and Steven Patterson (San Joaquin Delta) were each named to the All-PGCBL first team.  Cooperstown’s Jacob Hubert (Laredo C.C.) earned a second team all-league slot in the outfield and Hawkeyes first baseman Chris Blanton (CSU Monterey Bay) was on the Rising Stars team.
