University at Buffalo redshirt sophomore Tyler Mautner (Cooperstown 2012) captured the summer collegiate Far West League’s Triple Crown this summer as a member of Top Speed Baseball. Mautner led the Far West League in batting average, home runs and RBI in both league and non-league games.

The Sherill, N.Y., native was the starting third baseman for the Northern California-based summer collegiate squad. The team advanced to the Far West League championship game and finished the season with a 42-15 overall record.

Mautner topped all Far West League swingers with a .389 league batting average, 49 hits, 32 runs scored, eight home runs, 33 runs batted in and a 1.153 OPS rating in 31 league games. He was the only player in the FWL to compile at least 40 hits, 30 RBI and 30 runs scored. Twenty-one of Tyler’s 49 hits against Far West League opponents went for extra-bases. He tied for the league lead in doubles (12) and slugged .691.

Overall, Mautner, the 2012 PGCBL Home Run Derby champion, batted .390 with 13 home runs and 57 RBI. He totaled 90 hits, 58 runs, 26 doubles and 27 walks in 57 games. The Top Speed third baseman had a .680 slugging percentage and a .455 on-base percentage. Mautner led all Far West League players in batting average, at-bats (231), runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs and RBI. He compiled 30 multi-hit games and logged hitting streaks of eight, nine and 14 games. Tyler set Top Speed Baseball single-season franchise records for at-bats, hits, doubles and home runs.

Mautner, a 2013 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, also compiled three multi-home run games. He smashed two home runs in an 18-7 victory over the California Warriors, a Far West League opponent, on June 22. Mautner notched his second multi-home run game three weeks later against the West Coast League’s Klamath Falls Gems in a non-league game. He belted two home runs and drove in five runs altogether in a 14-13 defeat. Tyler collected a season high six RBI in his third and final two-home run game which came against the Walnut Creek Crawdads on July 27.

Last summer, Mautner appeared in 41 games for the PGCBL’s Cooperstown Hawkeyes. He led the team with 28 RBI.
