The Elmira Pioneers announced this afternoon the signing of three players from Old Dominion University for the 2014 season.  The freshman trio consists of right hand pitcher Sam Sinnen, outfielder Joe Guaragna and infielder Nick Walker.  

Sinnen hails from Virginia Beach, VA and played at Kellam HS before attending Old Dominion.  A crafty RHP, Sinnen stands 6'0" and was a first team All Tidewater selection last year, putting together a 9-1 record with a 1.95 ERA.  This spring, in 12 appearances for the Monarchs, Sinnen is 1-0 with a 2.20 ERA

Guaragna comes to the Pioneers from Mississauga, Ontario.  The left hand hitting OF has appeared in 8 games, scoring two runs and stealing two bases/

Walker, who also hails from Virginia Beach and played alongside Sam Sinnen at Keelam HS, hit .350 in his senior year.  His 3 HR's helped led the team to the Virginia 3A state quarterfinals. Walker has quickly worked his way into the Monarchs starting lineup.  He has appeared in 37 games, batting .312 with 2 HR's, 15 RBI's and a team leading 9 stolen bases.

"With this trio the Pioneers are getting three guys from a quality Conference USA program.", stated Pioneers Head Coach Matt Burch.  "Sam will be counted on to pitch a lot of innings for us while Nick and Joe will be able to contribute offensively and give us a boost"

The Pioneers home opener is set for Friday, June 6 vs the Amsterdam Mohawks.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.  There will be plenty of entertainment for fans including a post game Fireworks show!!
