The NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Committee has approve Ithaca College as the host institution and Colburn Park in Newark, NY as the host stadium for a 2014 NCAA Championship Regional opening round from May 14 - May 18.

The NCAA will announce the eight qualifying schools on Sunday night, May 11.  The regional was originally awarded to Falcon Park in Auburn, NY. However, field renovations and preparations were unable to be completed in time to play on the field by May 14.

Colburn Park is the home field for the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL).  When the team joined the PGCBL in 2012 owners Bob and Leslie Ohmann, along with the Village of Newark, began making improvements to the stadium.  The playing field was resurfaced and is now considered the best playing field in the PGCBL.  The ballpark now has modern locker rooms for both players and umpires, full concessions, press box, training facilities, merchandise stands and revamped bathrooms.

"We are truly excited to be hosting this event in Newark.", said Brian Connell General Manager of the Newark Pilots.  "This is a great opportunity for not only the Pilots but the Village of Newark as well to show off what a great facility we have in Colburn Park and what a great community this is."

"The tournament is expected to draw between 7,500 -10,000 fans during the weekend.  This will be an opportunity for many people to realize what a great place Newark is. ", commented owner Bob Ohmann
