The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs (2-2) came back from a 2-run first inning and a solo home run by Elmira right fielder Chris Kalousdian (Kings Park, NY/ Manhattan) in the fourth with a four-run sixth to beat the Pioneers (2-2) 6-4.

Kalousdian was responsible for half of the Pioneers’ four runs tonight. 

Tonight was Mohawk Valley’s “Pink Game,” in which the players wore pink shirts for breast cancer research. The shirts were then auctioned off after the game and all the proceeds went to breast cancer research.

The Pioneers got off to a fast start, getting three straight hits of Diamond Dawg starting pitcher Nick Petrella (West Sayville, NY/ Skidmore), and were supported by pitcher Bryson Hough’s (Fairfax, VA/ Bucknell) two no-hit innings to start the game.

Zach Bican (Columbia Station, OH/Pitt-Bradford)came in for the Pioneers in the 6^th, and after a fly-out to start the inning, gave up three straight singles and wound up giving up four runs and was the losing pitcher tonight.

Mohawk Valley would tack on one more run in the eighth inning on a hit by Justin Thomas (Richboro, PA/Rider) which would wind up as a throwing error by the Pioneers that would send Thomas all the way to third.

A pair of local Diamond Dawgs got the win and the save. Lucas Godlewski (Little Falls, NY/Herkimer CC) got the win, while Tyler Brien (Ilion, NY/Cortland State) got the save.

The Diamond Dawgs go on the road Monday for their next game to Glens Falls, looking to avenge their loss from Saturday night. The Pioneers continue their road trip as they will take on the Albany Dutchmen on Monday.
