Pioneers Offense Explosive in 11-6 WinPioneers Offense Explosive in 11-6 Win Elmira, NY - Derek Deler's 3 run home run in the seventh inning paced the Pioneers (5-3) to their second straight win against the Newark Pilots (6-3) at Historic Dunn Field on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers stayed in the win column for a second night in a row after a ninth inning rally against the Amsterdam Mohawks. Roberto Suppa (Cornell) made his second start of the season looking to pick up his first win after getting a no decision in his first outing against Watertown. Suppa allowed his first hit of the season in the first inning as Tanner Giesel (Southeastern Community College) singled through the right side of the infield. Suppa would stay composed early on after allowing a run, as he would leave the bases loaded after striking out Zach Wall (Young Harris) to end the inning. Elmira would quickly take over the lead in the home half of the inning against Newark starter Andrew Sanders (Ithaca). Taylor Hillson (Mansfield) continued his hot hitting driving in Nick Walker (Old Dominion) to make it a 2-1 game. Deler would score in the second inning after Walker reached on an infield error to give Elmira a two run cushion. Suppa worked his way into the fifth inning before Newark would find a way to tie up the game 3-3. Giesel again would work his magic for the Pilots driving in his first run of the game to start the scoring as eight Newark batter made their way to the plate. The Pioneers offense would pick up Suppa in the bottom half of the inning to put Suppa back into the win column as Christian Santisteban (Manhattan) scored from second on a wild pitch and an error by the catcher to make it a 4-3 game. The Pioneers would make their final offensive charge of the night in the seventh inning after Newark rallied an inning before to make it a 7-6 game. Deler would start the scoring off with his first home run as a Pioneers as he drove a no doubter over the left field fence for the first home run hit at Dunn Field this season. The Pioneers hit the road on Monday to face the Pilots once again and then return home on Tuesday to take on the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and fans will receive a Pioneers poster schedule while entering the game. Great seats are available at Historic Dunn Field for the game and fans can get tickets by visiting the Pioneers office located at the ballpark.
