Player of the Week (June 12 - June 18) - Tanner Giesel (Newark)

In the second set of weekly awards for the 2014 PGCBL season, Robert Robbins and Sam Sinnen have been named co-winners of the Pitcher of the Week award while Tanner Giesel takes home Player of the Week honors.

Robert Robbins tossed seven scoreless innings in his June 14 start against the Utica Brewers as the Newark Pilots won 6-2. Robbins allowed just one hit and struck out five Brewer batters. The Stevens product is now 2-0 on the season and has a 0.64 ERA. He has gone seven innings in both of his starts this season. At Stevens this past year, Robbins went 4-2 in eight appearances, seven being starts. He struck out 36 batters in 38 innings.

Sam Sinnen threw seven scoreless innings and picked up the win in Elmira’s 2-0 win over the Glens Falls Golden Eagles on June 17. Sinnen allowed just two hits and struck out three against the Golden Eagles. The right-hander from Old Dominion is now 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA for the Pioneers. He has struck out twelve batters in twelve innings pitched. In 16 appearances for Old Dominion this year, Sinnen went 1-0 with a 2.22 ERA. He had just one start with all other 15 appearances coming in relief.

Tanner Giesel led a Newark lineup that went 4-2 in the week of June 12-June 18. Giesel went 9-for-21 on the week with five RBIs, two doubles and a triple. The Southeastern Community College product is now hitting .317 for coach Mike Armstrong and has played in all twelve Pilot games. In 53 games at Southeastern CC, Giesel hit .310 with 34 RBI and 41 runs scored. He also clubbed 13 doubles and posted a .367 OBP.
