Note: Individual game box scores can be found linked on the scoreboard page, which is part of the “Statistics” drop-down menu Let’s recap last night’s action: Mohawk Valley 2 Adirondack 1 Game One In game one of a double-header in Little Falls, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs took the lead in the fourth and held on to defeat the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 2-1. Zach Collett walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth and was immediately driven in on a Jayson Sullivan double. That would conclude the scoring, as it was nothing but zeros after the fourth. Adirondack jumped on the board in the first on a Greg Wasikowski RBI single, but Mohawk Valley answered in the home half of the inning on a Collett home run. It was Collett’s third long ball of the season. Evan Davis tossed all seven innings for the DiamondDawgs, allowing just the one run and four hits as he picked up his third win of the season. Luke Lorah took the loss for the Trail Blazers, going 4.2 innings allowing the two runs. Mohawk Valley 6 Adirondack 1 Game Two In game two of the double-header, Mohawk Valley won much more convincingly, defeating Adirondack 6-1. With the win and Albany’s loss, Mohawk Valley is now in first place in the East Division. Mohawk Valley jumped out in front in the first, scoring two runs a Justin Thomas single. The Diamond Dawgs added two more in the second on a Greg Fazio RBI double and a passed ball to extend their lead to 4-0. Adirondack scored a lone run in the top of the fifth on an Alex Simone home run to cut the lead to 4-1, but Mohawk Valley put the game out of reach with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A passed ball and a Jake Glauser sacrifice fly brought in the two runs in the sixth. Lucas Godlewski went the distance in game two, like Evan Davis did in game one, to pick up the win for the DiamondDawgs. The right-hander allowed the one run, while giving up four hits and striking out eight Adirondack batters. Jabin Weaver tossed two innings and took the loss for the Trail Blazers. Glens Falls 8 Watertown 7 The Glens Falls Golden Eagles scored two runs in the top of the tenth inning to a take an 8-6 lead, a lead they would hold on to and defeat the Watertown Rams. Following two walks with two outs in the tenth inning, Danny Olvieri hit a ground ball to second base that Rams second baseman Santino Alteri was unable to field cleanly. After recovering the ball, Alteri’s throw to first base went wide of Dominic Lopez and allowed the two runners to score, giving Glens Falls an 8-6 lead. Watertown scored in the bottom of the tenth to make it a one-run game and loaded the bases with two outs, but a strikeout ended the game. The Rams came back from a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extras. Glens Falls had previously scored two runs in the eighth inning to take a 6-4 lead. JQ Folena doubled home a run and Ryan Dodge plated another with a single. Glens Falls scored four runs in the top of the sixth to comeback from a 3-0 deficit to take a 4-3 lead. The Rams scored lone runs in the first three innings of the game to get on the board. James Bonds homered in the second inning for Watertown and Garrett Bernardo finished 3-for-4 on the night. Amsterdam 11 Albany 6 The Amsterdam Mohawks struck early and often to go on and defeat the Albany Dutchmen, giving the Dutchmen their third consecutive loss and knocking them out of first place in the East Division. With the win, Amsterdam is now over .500 with a 7-6 record. The Mohawks scored three times in the first, twice in the second and third, and added three more runs in the fourth to take a 10-4 lead. Jonathan Pryor and John Razzino both had three RBI in the stretch. Razzino brought home the first Mohawk run in the first with a single and he came around to score with two outs on a Pryor 2-RBI single. A groundout and a passed ball scored the two Amsterdam runs in the second inning and in the third, Joey Aiola singled home two runs. In the bottom of the third, Albany struck for four runs on a Nick Jewett 2-RBI single, a wild pitch, and a Sean Aspinall RBI single. Razzino added two more RBI in the fourth with a single and now has eight RBI in just six games for the Mohawks. Amsterdam added a lone run in the top of the eighth and the Dutchmen answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it an 11-6 game, the final score. John McCarren tossed four innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for the Mohawks while Kevin Landgrebe allowed seven runs (six earned) and took the loss for the Dutchmen. At the plate, the Mohawks went 7-for-16 in RBI opportunities and 10-23 with runners on base. Newark 17 Elmira 4 Going into the top of the fifth inning Newark trailed 4-0 to Elmira. Then the Pilot offense struck for nine runs in the inning and took the lead for good, going on to defeat the Pioneers 17-4 in Elmira. The incredible thing about the nine runs in the top of the fifth, they all came with two outs. Conrad Ziemendorf started the onslaught with a single and scored the first Pilot run on a wild pitch. Wyatt Padgett singled home a run, Logan Boyher walked to bring in a run, three more walks brought home runs and Ziemendorf topped the inning off with a bases-clearing triple to bring home the final runs of the inning. The final line of the inning read nine runs on four hits and no errors. Ziemendorf got things started again in the eighth as he singled to lead off the inning. He came around to score on a Chris Folinusz RBI single. Derek Reed singled in two more runs and Austin Clock doubled home two more as the Pilots scored five runs in the inning to extend their lead to 14-4. They added three more in the ninth on a Jack Gerstenmaier RBI single and a throwing error by the Pioneers. Elmira’s four runs came on a wild pitch in the third, a Taylor Hillson RBI single in the fourth, a Joey Guaragna groundout and a Jordan Taylor RBI single, both in the fourth inning. Michael Springer tossed 7.2 innings, allowing the four Pioneer runs while striking out four as he picked up his second win of the season for Newark.
