Glens Falls Welcomes New Ownership![]() Glens Falls The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League announced this afternoon that the Glens Falls Golden Eagles franchise has been sold to a group headed by long time baseball executive Ben Bernard.
Bernard began his career in 1980, working the three years as the General Manager of the Glen Falls White Sox. During that time he was named Eastern League Executive of the Year in 1982. In 1983 he purchased the West Haven A's and moved them to Albany, NY, as the Albany Colonie Yankees. He served as President & GM of the team for ten seasons, twice being named Eastern League Executive of the Year and once garnering the Sporting News "AA" Executive of the Year award. Since selling the Albany club, Ben has successfully operated Bernardo's restaurant in Granville, NY.
"We see great potential in the ball club and the PGCBL. Glens Falls and the surrounding area has always been a hotbed for baseball. Interest seems to have sagged recently but, we plan on recapturing the enthusiasm that was here several years ago when former Major Leaguers like Brendan Harris, Randy St. Clair, Dave LaPoint and Dave Palmer were part of the baseball scene."
Ben will be joined by his brother Steve, who has 14 years experience in concessions and game day operations for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York Penn League and his son Erik who worked three seasons in promotions and sales for the Hickory Crawdads of the South Atlantic League
"We are very excited about the change in ownership in Glens Falls. Ben and his family bring a tremendous amount of minor baseball management experience to the club." stated PGCBL President Jeff Kunion. "I think Ben's interest in the team shows how valuable our franchises have become in only four years."
The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game, the largest independent scouting service in the country. This year more than 1,300 professional ball players had either worn the uniform of a PGCBL team or participated in a Perfect Game event.
