Late inning rally by Brewers extends win streakUTICA, NY – Scoring three runs in the eighth inning of Sunday’s (6/21) home game at Murnane Field, helped the Utica Brewers baseball team collect their second consecutive win in the PGCBL, defeating the Victor Railriders 3-2.
Putting Utica (8-9) on the board after falling down 2-0 was freshman Taylor Olmstead (University of Connecticut). The centerfielder took the second pitch of the at-bat over the left field fence, scoring Mason McClennan (Charleston Southern University) who led off the inning with a walk. Olmstead finished the game 1-for-3, collecting his ninth run batted in on his second home run of the season.
Driving in the game winning run was designated hitter Zach Piazza (Wake Forest). The freshman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Ryan Cox (Kutztown University), watching the Brewers collect four walks in the inning to fuel the comeback.
Starting the game for Utica was Ryan Simpler (East Tennessee State). The right hander threw a great game, allowing two earned runs while scattering eight Railrider hits. The freshman only allowed more than two hits in one inning – the inning Victor scored two runs in – stranding five Railriders in scoring position in his appearance.
Collecting the save was Wei-yang Tsao (National Taiwan Sports University). Tsao faced four batters, getting his final two outs via groundball for his second save of the season, holding an impressive 0.00 ERA in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
Up next for the Brewers is Adirondack. Utica is 2-2 against the Trail Blazers, but will look to change that on Monday (6/22) when they face each other at Donovan Stadium in Utica, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. |
