Dutchmen Defeated After Late-Inning Hawkeye RallyThe Albany Dutchmen (7-13) watched an early lead slip away as the hosting Cooperstown Hawkeyes (12-8) won 5-4 with four unanswered run in the late innings on Thursday night. The Dutchmen scored two in the first and fourth inning, surging to a 4-1 lead against the PGCBL West Division leading Hawkeyes. Albany native Steve Anderson (Georgetown University) was responsible for the first inning runs, rocketing his team leading third home run of the season for the Dutchmen. Infielders Brandon Trinkwon (UC Santa Barbara) and Joey Boney (Loyola Marymount), who continue to be among the top Dutchmen in batting average, highlighted the fourth inning with an RBI single and double, respectively. Tanner Barron (Trinity University) held the Dutchmen lead through the first six innings, looking strong in his first start of the season. The Albany righty went 5.2 innings giving up just one earned one off four hits while fanning a season-high nine. After Barron exited, Dutchmen relief struggled to hold onto the lead giving up four runs (three unearned) in the seventh and eighth frames. Ben Miller (Shippensburgh University) proved to be a spark for Cooperstown going 3-3 at the plate, scoring two runs. A Nate Izzo (Tufts University) single with two outs in the eighth, gave the Hawkeyes a 5-4 lead, proving to be the difference after the Dutchmen failed to plate a run in the ninth. Jimmy Hill (3-1) (Wesleyan University) who pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Hawkeyes recorded the win. Tim Haley (Quincy University) was tagged with the loss for the Dutchmen. The two teams will meet once again tonight at Bellizzi Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. For all Dutchmen information visit www.dutchmenbaseball.com or follow us @DutchmenPGCBL. |
