Beauchaine's Complete Game Downs DiamondDawgsThe Newark Pilots (11-10) swept their home-and-home series against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (6-15) with an 11-2 win at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday night.
Carson Beauchaine (Saginaw Valley State) earned his first win after pitching the first complete game of the season for the Pilots. Beauchaine allowed only one earned run on seven hits while fanning 11 DiamondDawg batters. He heads into Friday's games leading the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League with 34 strikeouts.Newark gave their starter plenty of offensive support to back his complete game performance. The every Pilot scored at least one run, and five batters recorded two or more hits. By the end of the fourth inning, Mohawk Valley had fallen behind 6-0 and pitcher Dustin Stanton (Southern Maine), who is now 0-5 on the season, was replaced on the mound. In the top half of the first, Kyle Attl (Cal State Northridge) hit a two-run double to give the Pilots an early lead. In the fifth, Jacob Starnes (UT-Dallas) hit a two-run triple. Starnes then scored on a RBI single from Michael Bolling (Lewis) to give Newark a 9-0 advantage. Mohawk Valley scored twice with runs in the sixth and seventh. George Hajjar (Felician) started off the home half of the sixth with a base hit. Hajjar came around and scored on a fielding error for the DiamondDawgs' first run of the night. In the seventh, Michael Gunn (Christian Brothers H.S.) hit a solo home run. Up 9-2 with two outs in the eighth, Attl hit a two-run home run to extend the Newark lead. Attl had his best offensive performance of the season with three hits and four RBI's. Beauchaine ended the game forcing Hassan Evans (Herkimer County C.C.) to ground into a 5-4-3 double play. Gunn led the DiamondDawgs with two hits, one run, and one RBI. Tyler Dunaway (Kentucky) pitched the final two innings for Mohawk Valley with a team-best four strikeouts. Both teams play on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The Newark Pilots host the Glens Falls Golden Eagles at Colburn Park, while the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs travel to Watertown to take on the Wizards. |
