Former Amsterdam coach joins MiLB staffA former coach in the PGCBL has joined the coaching staff of the Memphis Redbirds.
Robby Hisert, who was an coach for the Amsterdam Mohawks in 2012, will serve as Coach for the Redbirds this season, the team announced earlier this week. Hisert will work under Memphis manager Mike Shildt, who is returning for his second season at the helm.
During his season with Amsterdam, the Mohawks went 35-12 and went on to with the PGCBL championship, the team’s first of three-consecutive championships. The Amsterdam native helped guide the Mohawks to a regular season championship as well. He primarily worked with Mohawk hitters and Amsterdam had the second-best batting average in the PGCBL while scoring the second-most runs.
Before joining Memphis’s staff, Hisert was the first base coach for the Bridgeport Bluefish, an independent league team, and was the hitting coach for Southern Vermont College.
Memphis is the Triple A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. The 2016 roster for the Redbirds has not been set, but in 2015, 25 players with major league experience played in The Bluff City, including Jaime Garcia and Stephen Piscotty.
