Pioneers Rally in the Ninth To Defeat DiamondDawgsA very cold summer night here at Dunn Field as the Elmira Pioneers faced the Mohawk Valley DiamonDawgs.
2nd inning- Brian Kelly lead off with a deep double to the ball to the wall. After a Joe Preziuso single moved Kelly to third, Jason Patnick would allow him to score with a high single to the left side. Later on the bases would be loaded with Pioneers after a Zeke Lewis worked a walk off of and Troy Dixon would be hit by a pitch which would allow Preziuso to score bringing the score 2-0 after the bottom of the second inning.
5th inning- The DiamondDawgs would strike back in the fifth inning as a pair of hits would put Mohawk Valley at the corners. Justin Kieslow would then swing the bat just enough to force Phil Madonna from behind the plate, with DiamondDawg Mike Martinez charging for home. The only play was the out at first but Martinez would score regardless, making it 2-1 Pioneers. 6th inning- The Pioneers would threaten to score again, as starting Mohawk Valley pitcher Joe DeSarro would give up a pair of walks ending his night. Reliever Lucas Godlewski would surrender a pair of walks before throwing a wild pitch to bring in Kelly to a 3-1 lead.
8th inning- Mohawk Valley would rally back off of Pioneers reliever Kyle Stuart. The DiamondDawgs would rack up four hits and three runs at the top of the eighth. The Pioneers would then trail by one run entering the ninth inning.
9th inning- The Pioneers Zeke Lewis would lead off with a bloop single to left field off of Nick Plachno. He would be sent away in favor of Brendan Welch. Welch would get two outs in the inning but Zeke would make it to third base. Rob Perteet would then be hit by a pitch to bring Pioneers at the corners. Kelly would get an RBI single to tie the score and Joe Preziuso would hit a single to score in Perteet.
The final score of the game would be 5-4 in favor of the Elmira Pioneers. The winning pitcher of the evening would be Parker Caracci who threw a scoreless ninth while Mohawk Valley reliever Brendan Welch receveived the loss.
