The Utica Blue Sox scored all four of their runs in the middle innings as they went on to beat the Adirondack Trail Blazers in game one of a doubleheader. Mason Fessler finished with two RBIs and was one of three Blue Sox to post a multi-hit game as Utica went on to a 4-0 win. On the mound, Dylan Gerdts and Chad Burrows combined to allow just one hit as they shutout the Trail Blazers. Gerdts earned the win while Josh Partridge took the loss for Adirondack. Utica 8 Adirondack 7 (Game Two)
The Utica Blue Sox rallied in extra innings to come back and beat the Adirondack Trail Blazers, 8-7, to sweep a doubleheader at Donovan Stadium.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kyle Winkler delivered the walk off hit with the bases loaded to send the Blue Sox to victory. Adirondack had scored a run in the top of the extra inning frame to take a 7-6 lead. The Blue Sox took a 2-0 lead in the fourth but Adirondack got a run back in the fifth. Utica responded in the home half with a run of its own and after the Trail Blazers scored two in the sixth, the Blue Sox plated three in their half. After starting the season 0-3, the Amsterdam Mohawks are now at .500 after a 7-5 win over the Albany Dutchmen in the Capitol City. Tristen Carranza broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning with a solo home run and the Mohawks added a run in the ninth as insurance to secure the win. Before the Carranza home run, Amsterdam scored a lone run in the first to start the scoring. The Dutchmen responded with three runs in the home half of the inning, including a run on a Malcolm Nachmanoff double. After Amsterdam came within a run in the third, Albany scored two in the fourth to extend its lead to 5-2. In the sixth, though, an RBI single and two wild pitches tied the game at five. Derek Balbierz tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for Amsterdam. Jackson Bubala took the loss for Albany.
Elmira 5 Mohawk Valley 4
Down by a run going into the bottom of the ninth, the Elmira Pioneers rallied to beat the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs, 5-4, and keep them winless on the season. In the ninth, Brian Kelly hit a game-tying RBI single and one batter later, Joe Preziuso drove in Rob Perteet as the game’s winning run. The Pioneers started the scoring in the second on a Jason Patnick RBI single and a bases loaded hit by pitch. The DiamondDawgs came within a run in the fifth on a groundout but Elmira got it back in the sixth on a wild pitch. In the eighth, however, Tanner Leenknecht hit an RBI single, a sacrifice fly and an Andrew Turner RBI double gave the DiamondDawgs the lead. But Elmira’s rally in the ninth kept the defending champions winless on the season. Parker Caracci got the win for Elmira while Brendan Welch took the loss for Mohawk Valley. Saugerties 8 Glens Falls 4 A great start by Nicholas Burns propelled the Saugerties Stallions to an 8-4 win over Glens Falls at East Field. The Stallions put up three runs in the first inning, including two on a Vince Lakes Jr. double. An error resulted in a third inning run for the visitors and lone runs also scored in the fourth and sixth before a two-run eighth inning for Saugerties. The first two Glens Falls runs came on balks. The home team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a Josh Brown RBI single and a Robbie Knightes RBI single. But it wasn’t enough as Saugerties held on to double up the Dragons. Burns allowed two runs over seven innings of solid work for Saugerties in earning the win. PJ Watson gave up six of the eight Saugerties runs in taking the loss.
Newark 4 Jamestown 3
In what was now the two teams’ third matchup of the season, the Newark Pilots extended their winning streak against the Jamestown Jammers on Wednesday with a 4-3 win at Colburn Park. Both teams scored all of their runs in one inning, with Jamestown posting a three-run second and Newark scoring four in the fifth. In the the three-run second, Alex O’Donnell hit an RBI single and a sacrifice fly accounted for two of the three runs. In Newark’s big inning, Ching-Wei Sen hit a two-RBI single and Matt Zielonoko hit a two-RBI double to give the Pilots what ended up being the winning run.
DJ Mendenhall allowed one run in four innings of relief to earn the win. Chris Vallimont took the loss for Jamestown.
