Elmira Wins Pitchers Duel Against NewarkA solid day for baseball as both teams went back and forth throughout the night keeping each other off the boards. It was not until the bottom of the seventh that Elmira would again find a way to win at home.
Joe Preziuso (Canisius) would lead off the inning with a full count walk from Ryan Wesson (Northeast Miss. C.C.) A wild pitch would advance Preziuso to second and Buckman grounded out to move Preziuso to scoring position. With one out and two strikes on Jason Patnick (Siena) he would swing and miss on strike three but would get in the dirt pass the legs of catcher Dan Vucovich (Holy Cross) which would allow Patnick to score. Graham would follow up with a deep double to right center field to score Buckman and would advance to third on the throw, scoring on a throwing error by Vucovich. The Pioneers would lead 3-0 at the bottom of the seventh and would continue to shut out the Pilots on the scoreboard with excellent pitching and solid defense.
Elmira starter Taylor Ahearn (Cal State San. Marcos) would get the no decision but threw a well-pitched game. With six innings pitched, Ahearn gave up one hit, walked one batter and struck out eight. New arrival Austin Hansen (Seattle University) pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win. Cody Thompson (Randolph-Macon) notched the save in the ninth, striking out two batters. Pilot pitcher Ryan Wesson as he pitched six and a third innings, gave up three hits and was responsible for the winning run left on third base.
With 23 regular home season wins and wins in the 2016 season and five games won this season. Elmira extends its regular season home game winning streak to 28 games. They currently hold a four game win streak in the 2016.
