Blazers walk off in extras against Stallions
The Adirondack Trail Blazers have been winning in dramatic fashion in 2016 and have picked up their third walk-off win, all in 11 innings, this season against the visiting Saugerties Stallions on Friday. The Blazers’ offense was quiet all game long. But in the second inning after walks to Lorenzo Calderon and Kyle Cunningham, Justin Lebeck picked up a two-RBI double to give his team a 2-0 lead. The score would remain the same until the top of the fifth when Michael Pfenninger hit a solo home run to right field, bringing his team within one run. An RBI single from Anthony Cruz would tie the game at 2-2, bringing home Vince Lakes Jr. The highlight for the Stallions was their stellar pitching from Nick Burns. He retired the Blazers 1-2-3 in eight innings out of nine pitched. Reliever Moshup Galbraith would do the same in the bottom of the tenth. In the bottom of the tenth, Justin Lebeck hit a lead-off triple to the right field corner, giving Adirondack a runner in scoring position in extra innings. He would, however, be thrown out at home after Brandon Orbe flew out to right field. Their luck would turn around. With two runners on base and two outs, Nick Bernick would send a ground ball down the third base line, scoring Brett Simon all the way from second base to pick up the win 3-2. Orbe and Chris Collins also picked up walk-off hits for the Trail Blazers in 11 innings against the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs and Victor RailRiders respectively. Both the Trail Blazers and Stallions have road games next. Adirondack will face the Newark Pilots, and Saugerties will take on the Albany Dutchmen. |
