Red Wings fend off RailRiders in 2-1 victoryThe Geneva Red Wings picked up there sixth win of the season behind Alec Jordan’s seven shutout innings on Thursday Night. Jordan, (Knox College) held Victor to four hits and no runs throughout his stint on the mound, and finally got some support at the plate in the seventh inning. With the game dead locked at zero, Geneva catcher Monroe Donnelly (John Carroll university) lifted a hot shot double down the left field line which ended up sparking the Red Wings. Two wild pitches later, Donnelly scored the first run of the game and kick started the Geneva offense which had been held down throughout the evening. The Wings would tack on an insurance run on a bases loaded walk later in the seventh and then turned things over to the bullpen with a 2-0 lead. Andy Reed, (Elmira College) would come on in the eighth to work out of a bases loaded jam, only allowing a sacrifice fly which gave Victor its first and only run of the night. Joe Kwasniewski (Walsh College) would come on in the ninth to finish the deal for Geneva, pitching a scoreless inning and giving the Red Wings back to back victories for the second time this year. With the Win, Geneva improves to 6-12 on the season, while the RailRiders fall to 9-11 with the loss. Geneva will hit the road tomorrow when they battle newly acquired rival Newark on Friday night.
