Pioneers Win Seventh Straight Over The TrailBlazers, Defeat Adirondack 5-1After getting rained out yesterday at Little Falls, NY the Pioneers looked to get back in action against the Adirondack TrailBlazers.
Rob Perteet (Samford) got the Pioneers on the board at the top of the third on the very first pitch. He hit a solo shot to right field over the fence and into the trees to make the score 1-0.
The Pios would continue to put runs on the board as a Brian Kelly (Siena) RBI single, a Lucas Denney sacrifice fly (Seattle U.) and a Kyle Ruth (LIU Brooklyn) RBI walk would put Elmira up 4-0 at the end of the fifth.
The TrailBlazers would tack one on in the bottom of the eighth to bring the score 4-1 but reliever Marc Galvan (Manhattan) would strike out the side to close out the inning.
Ty Denzer (Kansas) would hit an RBI double in the top of the ninth to put the score 5-1.
The winning pitcher would be Sean Hjelle (Kentucky) as he pitched five innings and allowed only two hits and no runs. Connor Donahue (U. of Mass.) would take the loss for the TrailBlazers as he gave up four runs on ten hits. Galvan recorded six strikeouts in three innings pitched and Cody Thompson (Randolph Macon) struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning.
The Pioneers next home game is Tuesday, July 12th at 7:05 p.m. and it is against the Utica Blue Sox and it is also Demets Turtle Toss night!
The Pioneers will also be hosting Wounded Warrior Weekend next Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, July 15th it is the Wounded Warrior Concert which features a variety of great local bands around the area such as Still Kickin, Rust, Wendy Owens and Renegade. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday, July 16th, it is the Motorcycle Ride which begins at Dunn Field! Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and the kickstart is set for 1:00 p.m. Later on, it is the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Game where your Elmira Pioneers will face off against the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball League. After the softball game there will be postgame fireworks!
