Stallions Edge Glens Falls 4-3The Saugerties Stallions (11-20) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and then rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the sixth to claim a 4-3 win over Glens Falls (14-19).
Saugerties got off to a quick start in this one. Alex Thrower (U. of Buffalo) drew a leadoff walk in the first against Glens Falls starter Bryan Warzek (U. of New Orleans). Thrower advanced to second on a fielder's choice, and came around to score on a Brian Dempsey (Boston College) single. Dempsey came in to score later in the inning on a single by Michael Pfenninger (Manhattan) to make it 2-0 Stallions.
Glens Falls got a run back in the home half of the first. With one out Griffin Neuer ripped a single to left field off of Saugerties starter Andrew Workman (Quinnipiac). Neuer scored the Dragon's first run on a double by Chris Kwitzer (U. of Buffalo) to cut the lead to 2-1.
Glens Falls struck again in the fourth. Ryan Hooper (Cal-Davis) singled to lead off the inning. Kwitzer then hit his second RBI double of the game to plate Hooper, tying the game. Kwitzer then scored when Drew Greenwood (Bellarmine) hit a grounder to short and the Saugerties shortstop chose to go to third to get Kwitzer and threw the ball away giving Glens Falls the lead for the first time of the night at 3-2.
The Stallions regained the lead in the sixth. Andrew Knuessle (Canisius) came on in relief for Glens Falls and gave up a one out single to Andy Karlan (Palm Beach State). Karlan was retired on a fielder's choice by Thrower. Thrower stole second base and came around to score on a single by Caleb Kerbs (Maine). Kerbs then gave the Stallions the lead when he scored on a Dempsey RBI single to make it 4-3.
That would be all the scoring that the Stallions would need as their bullpen kept the Dragons in check the rest of the way as Saugerties hung on for the win.
Dempsey led Saugerties, going 4 for 5. Pfenninger added a pair of hits.
Kwitzer had two hits and two RBIs for Glens Falls. Hunter Szaflarski (Lock Haven) was 2 for 4.
Workman (4-1) got the win for Saugerties. Mike Davis (Quinnipiac) earned his second save of the season.
Knuessle (2-3) took the loss for Glens Falls.
The Dragons will be home once again tomorrow night to take on the Albany Dutchmen. Game time at East Field is 7:00 P.M. |
