Patient Pioneers Score Ten Runs In The Top Of The Ninth To Put Out The TrailBlazers, Win 14-7The Pioneers looked to win another one on the road before coming back to Historic Dunn Field for Wounded Warrior Weekend.
The Pioneers got it started at the top of the second inning with a leadoff triple by Lucas Denney and a bloop RBI double by Blake Buckman (U. of Louisiana at Monroe) to put the Pios up 1-0. Buckman would come around later to score off a TrailBlazer to make it 2-0.
The TrailBlazers would answer with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second and third innings, tying the score 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, Jason Patnick (Manhattan) with a standup double. Troy Dixon (Samford) would follow up with a standup double of his own to bring in Patnick and an RBI groundout by Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) would put the Pioneers up 4-2.
Adirondack would rally for a three run fifth inning to take their first lead of the night 5-4. They would later tack on a run in the seventh inning and take a 6-4 lead to the ninth inning. After that, the Pioneers would put up ten runs on TrailBlazer relievers Donald Goodson (Prairie State College) and Pat Geraghty (Chestnut Hill College) to ultimately put the game away. The TrailBlazers tried to bounce back but was ultimately defeated by Elmira by a score of 14-7.
Cody Thompson (Randolph Macon) earns the win pitching two innings of work allowing four hits, one run and striking out one while TrailBlazer pitcher Donald Goodson takes the loss pitching a third of an inning giving up five runs on one hit, three walks and no strikeouts.
The Pioneers will begin the Wounded Warrior Weekend tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. with the Wounded Warrior Concert at Historic Dunn Field. The concert features a variety of great local bands around the area such as Still Kickin, Rust and Wendy Owens & Renegade. Gates open at 5:00 p.m.
On Saturday, July 16th, it is the Motorcycle Ride which begins at Dunn Field! Registration begins at 11:00 a.m. and the kickstart is set for 1:00 p.m. Later on, it is the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Game where your Elmira Pioneers will face off against the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team. The time for the game is 7:05 p.m. and the gates open at 6:00 p.m.

The Pioneers next home game is Sunday, July 17th, at 5:05 p.m. against the Oneonta Outlaws. This game features a Hilliard Thundersticks giveaway and it’s also Bobby K Sunday Funday!
