Pioneers Run The Outlaws Out Of Town 14-4

After hosting the Wounded Warrior Weekend, the Pioneers went back to PGCBL play with a matchup against the East Division Oneonta Outlaws.


After the Outlaws jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first, the Pioneers answered back with three runs of their own tahnks to a two RBI single by Rob Perteet (Samford) and a RBI sacrifice fly from Brian Kelly (Siena).


After Troy Dixon (Samford) led off the third inning with a walk, Perteet would cruch a triple off the right center wall. Perteet would be brought in to score after a RBI putout from Lucas Denney (Seattle U.) to make the score 5-1.


The Outlaws tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth but Troy Dixon would bring in Zeke Lewis (Kentucky) who led off the inning with a double. By the end of the fourth, the Pioneers led 6-3.


Elmira would break it open in the bottom of the fifth as Blake Buckman (U. of Louisiana at Monroe) singled in two runs. Following that, Storm Wilson (Kentucky) hit a RBI sacrifice fly and Dixon would hit a RBI single to give Elmira a commanding lead of 10-3.


The Pio’s scored three more runs in the bottom of the seventh as Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) singled in a run and later scored on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Brian Kelly brought Elmira a 13-3 lead.


The Outlaws would capitalize on to score a run in the eighth but Storm Wilson would score off a wild pitch in the same inning to bring the score 14-4.


That would be the last run scored as Parker Caracci (Ole Miss) would throw a one-two-three inning to close out the game.


The winning pitcher for Elmira would be Sean Hjelle (Kentucky) who threw five innings and gave up three runs on eight hit and struck out three. Cal Lawrence (Binghamton U.) gave up ten runs on 11 hits, one walk and two strikeouts.


The Pioneers will begin a home and home series against the Geneva Red Wings tomorrow.
