Outlaws Drop Two Games to AlbanyONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta Outlaws came up short in both games against the Albany Dutchmen on Thursday night at Damaschke field. In the first game, the Outlaws lost a close 3-1 contest, before falling 11-1 in the nightcap. Jason Wasilnak (St. John Fisher College) (0-2) started on the mound for the Outlaws in the opener. In the top of the first after getting two outs, Trace Tyre (Ole Miss) ripped a double and then scored on Brandt Holland’s (North Alabama) RBI single up the middle. In the bottom of the first, the Outlaws quickly answered with a run of their own as Chandler Engel (USC Sumter) started the inning off with a double. Ian Fair (Northeastern) stepped in the box and hit back to back doubles scoring Engel. Both teams would stay quiet as Albany’s starter Jack Grabek (Bucknell) (1-1) would keep the game close by putting up three straight zeros. Wasilnak would go 4.2 innings and allow 2 runs on 6 hits. The Dutchmen would take the lead in the top of the fifth on a throwing error by the pitcher. He would be relieved by Matt Deans (USC Sumter) and he would go 1.1 innings and give up 1 run. Andrew Workman would finish the game for the Outlaws going 1 inning and allowing zero runs. The Outlaws couldn’t find answer against Jeremiah Burke (Georgetown) as he finished the game going 2.1 innings and allowing zero runs on zero hits. Mike White would start on the hill for the Outlaws in their second loss of the day. He would get through the first two innings only allowing 1 hit and giving up zero runs. White started to get in trouble in the top of the third where Peyton Sockwell (North Alabama) and Brad Gneiting (Rice) started the inning off with back to back walks. With runners on, Adam Elliot (Louisville) hit a single loading up the bases for White. After getting two outs with the bases loaded, Nick Gallo (Oklahoma State) hit a bases clearing triple to put the Dutchmen up 3-0. After an error committed by the second baseman, the Dutchmen would drive another run across making the score 4-0. In the top of the fourth, the Dutchmen would score six runs, 5 unearned on errors made by the Outlaws. Albany tallied up a total of 11 hits against Oneonta’s two. Matt Pierce (Siena College) (4-1) started on the mound for Albany and threw an impressive 5 innings and didn’t give up a hit until the bottom of the sixth inning to Ian Fair (Northeastern). He would go 6 innings, give up 0 runs on 1 hit. The Albany Dutchmen improved to 17-10 on the year as Oneonta falls to 7-21. The Outlaws will be back in action tomorrow as they hit the road and head to Utica as they face the Utica Blue Sox, game time is set for 7pm. |
