Pilots Hold Off Jammers For 13-10 Win at Colburn ParkNEWARK, N.Y. - The Newark Pilots improved their record to 9-23 with a 13-10 win at Colburn Park, to end the Jamestown Jammers' 11-game win streak and run their record to 25-6. After Jamestown got 1 in the top of the second, Newark scored the next 13 to take a 13-1 lead into the seventh. 5 in the top of the seventh, and 4 in the top of the ninth cut it to 13-10. Eddie Fournier (Cypress CC) got the final out of the game with a strikeout with the tying run at the plate to halt the Jammers rally. Henry Martinez (Cypress CC) earned his second win, Nate Grant (St. Bonaventure) took his second loss. Jamestown kicked off the scoring in the top of the second, with a single from Alex O’Donnell (Mercyhurst) to score John Conti (Canisius) with the games first run. Newark answered with a 5 run bottom half. The scoring started when Christian Orr (Saginaw Valley) beat out the return throw of a double play attempt to score Peter Battaglia (Niagara) to tie the game. The Pilots took the lead on a Jorge Leon (Hendrix) single, to score Jonathan Parker (Jones JC). They would add two more on a bases loaded, bases clearing double from Graham Hackbarth (Pearl River CC) to score Orr, Leon, and Mark McKenna (Canisius). After a scoreless third the Pilots would go on to score in their next three offensive innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Over Torres (Yavapai CC) drove in McKenna and Hackbarth with a bases loaded double to go up 7-1. In the bottom of the fifth, they added two more on two run single from Hunter Wells (Tyler JC) driving in Orr and McKenna to go up 9-1. Newark rounded out their scoring with 4 in the bottom of the sixth. Colton Carney (Seton Hill) drove in Torres and Parker with a two run double to go up 11-1. Leon drove in Carney with a single, and McKenna drove in Orr with a ground out to take a 13-1 lead. After six innings pitched, five hits, an earned run, and 10 strikeouts, Martinez gave way to his bullpen. In the top of the seventh, Jamestown sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored 5 off of Ryan Allen (Eckerd). Skyler Valentine (UTSA) drove in the Jammers second run with a single to score O’Donnell. Jimmy Standohar (Mercyhurst) drove in Christ Conley (Canisius) to cut the lead to 13-3. Connor Rule (Kansas State) then drove in Valentine and Standohar to cut the lead to 13-5. O’Donnell drove in the final run in the inning on a bases loaded walk to score John Conti (Canisius). In the top of the eighth, Jordan Miller (Costal Alabama CC) allowed a one out single to Collin Stack (UMBC), but got the next two batters to fly out to strand the runner. After a scoreless bottom of the eighth, which the Pilots left the bases loaded, Miller headed out for the ninth. After walking the first three to load the bases, he was pulled for Fournier. Fournier then walked O’Donnell to cut the lead to 13-7. After a Conley strikeout, Chris Estrada (UTSA) came up and hit a bases loaded, bases clearing double to cut the lead to 13-10. After a fly out and a walk, Standohar came up as the tying run. Fournier struck him out to end the game. Standohar went 3-6 with an RBI, Conti went 1-2 with 3 walks and 3 runs, and O’Donnell went 2-3 with 2 walks, 2 runs, and 3 RBIs for Jamestown. McKenna went 3-5 with a HBP, 3 runs, and an RBI, Hackbarth went 3-6 with a double, a run, and 3 RBIs, Torres went 2-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored, and 2 RBIs, Parker went 3-5 with 2 runs, Orr went 1-2 with 3 walks, 3 runs scored, and an RBI, and Leon went 2-4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Newark will host Elmira tomorrow night at 5:05. Jamestown will host Oneonta at 3:05. |
