Eighth-Inning Rally Leads Albany Past SaugertiesALBANY, N.Y. - After being shut out for nearly the whole game, the Albany Dutchmen (18-11) had an improbable two out comeback in the eighth inning to stun the Saugerties Stallions (14-15) by a score of 3-2. The big hero of the game for the Dutchmen was Brandt Holland (North Alabama). Holland, who was pinch hitting for Peyton Sockwell (North Alabama) roped a go ahead three run double off of relief pitcher Kevin Napoleon (Butler). Holland was thrown out a third to end the inning. The eighth inning for Albany started quietly, as Brady Peterson (Stetson) retired the first two batters. It looked like he would retire all three, but Justin Decker reached on an error by shortstop Luke Pettersen (Minnesota). Chase Allen followed by hitting a foul popup that was misplayed by first baseman Andrew Taft (Buffalo). Allen used the second chance to hit a single and end Peterson’s night. Kelly Killeen (Franklin Pierce) walked pinch hitter Griffen Herrera (Azusa Pacific) in the only batter he would face to bring up Holland. Holland’s three RBI double spoiled a great outing by starting pitcher John Clayton (UAlbany). Clayton worked six scoreless innings, only allowing five hits while walking four and striking out two to lower his season ERA to 0.36. Saugerties scored their only two runs of the ballgame in the third inning off of Teddy Paisley (Virginia). After the Stallions loaded the bases on back to back singles by Matt Forlow (Manhattan) and Austin Powell (Arkansas State) along with a walk by Nick Campana (Hartford), Pettersen hit an RBI single and Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) hit an RBI groundout. Paisley pitched another solid outing for the Dutchmen, as he went 5.1 innings, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out two, as he only allowed two runs. Paisley has lowered his season ERA to 3.12 and the Dutchmen have won three out of his four starts. Justin Bureau (Ave Maria) continued his dominance on the mound by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out two out of the three batters, which earned him his sixth save on the season. Bureau is now in sole possession for second in the league in saves. Bureau’s earned run average is a perfect 0.00. The stellar Albany bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings between Bureau, Adam Elliot (Louisville), and Jeremiah Burke (Georgetown). The Dutchmen have continued to open up their lead in the East Division over Saugerties, as they are now four games ahead of the Stallions. Saugerties has lost three straight games to Albany, all of which occurred over the past week. The Stallions have now lost six out of their last seven games. Albany hits the road on Monday to take on the Utica Blue Sox. A day off on Tuesday follows that game before the Dutchmen return home to take on Glens Falls on Wednesday at Siena Field at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday night will be Teacher Recognition Night at the ballpark, as all teachers will receive free admission to the game. |
