DiamondDawgs Defeat Dragons 3-0LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. – Going into Saturday night's game, the Glens Falls Dragons had suffered through 365 straight days without a win on the road. When the dust settled at Veteran's Memorial Park in Little Falls, the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs ushered the Dragons into a second year of futility. Mohawk Valley took advantage of the small ball style of play on Saturday, knocking in only five hits, but making the most of them in a 3-0 shutout of Glens Falls. Mohawk Valley struck first in the bottom of the inning on an Austin Pollack (Harrison, NY/Hofstra) hit that managed to drag first baseman Ryan Beamish (Brentwood, TN/Lee) off of first base. That hit scored Alexis Monge-Rodriguez (Pembroke Pines, NY/Barry). The DiamondDawgs doubled their lead in the fourth on a hard hit ball by Clay Koniencki (Schwenksville, PA/Monmouth) that managed to get away from the Glens Falls outfielders. That double scored Pollack. The Mohawk Valley lead would be extended to three on another RBI double, this time by Joe Engel (Downers Grove, IL/Columbia). The hard hit ball would find its way to the wall, and in the process, score Dan Deely (Sonoma, CA/Sacramento State). From there, Mohawk Valley (28-16) starter Tyler Ksiazek (South Abington Township, PA/Monmouth) and reliever Jonathan Sell (Charlton, NY/Herkimer) baffled the Glens Falls bats. They would allow only one baserunner in the form of Beamish in the final four innings to put the Dragons away. With the combined shutout, Ksiazek picked up his fourth win of the season, while Sell got his first save. Connor Romano (Johnson, NY/Rhode Island) was saddled with the loss for Glens Falls (16-32). The DiamondDawgs head to Murnane Field on Sunday for a matinee with the Utica Blue Sox, before heading back to Veteran's Memorial Park on Monday for a non-traditional doubleheader with the Albany Dutchmen that could determine where the DiamondDawgs and Dutchmen will hold their first-round playoff game. Meanwhile, the Dragons look one more time for their first win on the road, traveling to Saugerties on Sunday for a game with the Stallions before finishing out the season at East Field on Monday against the Amsterdam Mohawks. |
