Jude Vidrine (Lamar) came to Amsterdam, NY this summer with plenty to prove. The lefty hitter was coming off of an underwhelming season at Lamar University in which he batted .222 with eighth extra base hits. Just a few months later, Vidrine has burst onto the scene in the PGCBL. Monday night was no different, the native Texan was 4-5 with two home runs and five R.B.I. as he sparked the Mohawks to a 10-3 victory over the Albany Dutchmen.

After another standout performance at Shuttleworth Park, Vidrine now owns seven home runs and 25 R.B.I. this summer. When the lefty stepped to the plate in the fourth inning he launched a Billy Creighton (Schenectady County C.C.) fastball over the fence in right-center to give Amsterdam a 8-0 lead. When Vidrine came back up in the sixth, he cranked a no-doubter deep into the night and beyond the tall fence in straight away right-field.

Kody Ortman (Auburn) got the Mohawks started in the second inning when he exploded with his third homer of the year to break the seal and put the Mohawks ahead 2-0.

Amsterdam tacked on four more runs in the third, two unearned, after a Creighton throwing error.

Mark Leiter (NJIT) was fabulous in his 10th start of the summer, he struck out a season-high 13 batters and did not allow a hit over six innings of work. The righty was lifted after firing 96 pitches on the way to snatching his fourth win.

Steve Anderson (Georgetown) got the Dutchmen on the board when he connected with his sixth four-bagger of the season with one out in the seventh.

Albany tacked on two more in the ninth before Derrick Brewer (Radford) struck out Anthony Turgeon (C.C.S.U.) to end the game.

Amsterdam remains a game and a half behind Glens Falls in the battle for the top overall seed in the PGCBL playoffs because the Golden Eagles beat the DiamondDawgs 6-1 on Monday night.

On Tuesday night, the Mohawks will host Glens Falls at 7:00 in the final regular season game of the summer at Shuttleworth Park.
