The Elmira Pioneers 2011 season ended last night with a rain shortened 5-3 loss to the Cooperstown Hawkeyes. The game was anti climatic as the Pios were eliminated from playoff contention on Tuesday night dropping a hard fought 3-2 decision to the Newark Pilots.
There were some positives to focus on upon review of the season. Ryan Normoyle tied for the league lead in hitting and the team led the PGCBL in runs scored. Normoyle set a team record for most hits in a season (67) and batting average (.379). David Bishop set the Pios single season HR mark with 9. Justin Lacy set a new standard for RBI's in a season with 40.
Pioneeers fans had a truly outstanding year. The team set a new Pioneers collegiate attendance record at 35,453, an average of 1,477 per game.
