PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 17, 2018![]() A doubleheader between Utica and Geneva turns Sunday's PGCBL slate into a seven game affair, including four games between divisional foes. Saturday's Results Sunday's Scheduled Games Geneva Red Wings at Utica Blue Sox The Blue Sox and the Red Wings will play two at Murnane Field on Sunday, making up the game that was rained out on Wednesday. The ballclubs sport similar records with the Wings at 6-6 and the Blue Sox at 6-7. In one of the two games, the Red Wings will send reigning PGCBL Pitcher of the Week Sean Lubreski (NJIT) to the mound in search of his third win. The doubleheader will be the only meetings of the season between the teams. Amsterdam Mohawks at Albany Dutchmen A historic PGCBL rivalry will make its first journey to Siena College on Sunday, as the Mohawks and the Dutchmen play for the third time this season. The Mohawks have claimed 2-0 and 9-3 victories over Albany thus far this season, but sport a 2-4 record away from Shuttleworth Park. The pitching matchup will see reigning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) battling Zane Stephens (Mississippi State), with both pitchers sporting 1-0 records. Newark Pilots at Elmira Pioneers Third place in the PGCBL West will be on the line at Dunn Field, the home of the 2018 PGCBL All-Star Game. The 2-9 Pilots can move ahead of the 4-9 Pioneers in the loss column with a victory on the road, which would snap a two-game losing streak. Two of the Pioneers' four victories this season have come against the Pilots, as Elmira claimed both ends of a doubleheader at Dunn Field on June 9 by scores of 2-1 and 9-8. Oneonta Outlaws at Saugerties Stallions Fresh off a victory over the first place Albany Dutchmen, the Saugerties Stallions welcome division rival Oneonta to Cantine Field. This matchup has already been played three times this season, with Oneonta taking two of three meetings. Saugerties won the most recent matchup, though, winning 10-6 at Cantine Field on Monday. The home team has been more successful in the season, winning two of three. Watertown Rapids at Adirondack Trail Blazers In their first season in the PGCBL, the Watertown Rapids have raced out to a 9-3 record, and will look to be the second PGCBL team to 10 wins on Sunday. The Rapids have won consecutive games against the Trail Blazers this season, with a scheduled game on Wednesday pushed back to July 3. Addison Pawelek (Wayne State) is scheduled to throw for the Rapids on the road at the Robert Smith Sports Complex. Jamestown Jammers at Glens Falls Dragons Two of the PGCBL's top five teams in winning percentage meet up at East Field for a matchup between the West-leading Jammers and the host Dragons, who sit a half game back in the East. Jamestown is in the midst of an eastern trip, and are playing Amsterdam, Glens Falls, and Mohawk Valley in consecutive days. The Dragons, who could take control of the East Division with a win and an Albany loss, will play in Jamestown on July 11. |
