Week 2 Player and Pitcher of the Week NamedDuring each week of the 2018 PGCBL season, the league office will recognize one position player and one pitcher as the League's Player and Pitcher of the Week. The second Player of the Week produced dominant results in just three games on the week, while the Pitcher of the Week slammed the door on opponents three times out of the bullpen. The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce the selection of Watertown's Joshua Bozoian (Union) as the PGCBL Player of the Week, and Utica's JT Gosweiler (Iona) as the PGCBL Pitcher of the Week. Bozoian marks the first Rapids player to earn a weekly honor in franchise history, and the first player from a Watertown team to be Player of the Week since Donald Walter (Cal Poly Pomona) in 2012, when the Watertown Wizards called the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds home. The last Utica Pitcher of the Week was Nolan Freeman (Mercyhurst), who won the award twice in 2016. All three appearances for the Watertown Rapids of Joshua Bozoian proved to be frutiful for the Central Division leaders. The outfielder from Union scored a league weekly best eight runs in three games, and recorded at least two hits in all three contests. He saved his best work for the weekend, hitting home runs in victories over Glens Falls on Saturday and Adirondack on Sunday. The Chino Hills, California native, who made each of his starts on the road, had a monster game on Sunday, with four hits, four runs scored, and five runs batted in. This season at Union University in Tennessee, Bozoian started in 21 games, and made 33 total appearances. He belted three home runs, and drove in 14 for the Bulldogs. Following the season, he was named to the Spring Honor Roll in the Gulf South Conference, which is reserved for student athletes with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. JT Gosweiler has settled into his role as the closer for the Utica Blue Sox, and has been one of the most untouchable bullpen arms in the PGCBL. The Iona Gael pitched 3.1 innings this week over three games, and allowed only one hit as he picked up a save in each outing. Gosweiler's best performance of the week came on Friday, when he tossed two shutout innings to secure Utica's 7-4 win over the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. On the season, the lefthander has appeared in six games without allowing a run, and has recorded a PGCBL-best five saves with only two hits allowed. At Iona, Gosweiler threw 24.2 innings in his freshman season, and struck out 16 hitters. The PGCBL is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Bozoian and Gosweiler over the last seven days. The league will continue to honor the best performances in the PGCBL throughout the summer with both nightly and weekly awards. |
