PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 21, 2018Led by a doubleheader in the PGCBL West, seven games are on the schedule for the third Thursday of the 2018 season. Wednesday's Results Thursday's Scheduled Games Elmira Pioneers at Newark Pilots The West Division rivals will play two at Colburn Park on Thursday, making up the game that was postponed on the second night of the PGCBL season. The games are the first to be played in Newark after three previous meetings at Dunn Field in Elmira, where the Pioneers won two of three. It is also the second doubleheader of the season between Elmira and Newark. The Pioneers swept a twinbill on June 9 by final scores of 2-1 and 9-8. Saugerties Stallions at Albany Dutchmen The Albany Dutchmen kept their grip on the PGCBL East following a massive comeback on Wednesday night in Oneonta, while Saugerties rode a dominant pitching performance to a 1-0 win over Amsterdam. The Dutchmen hold a 2-1 series lead on the season, but Saugerties was victorious in the only previous game in Albany. Greg Marino (Stony Brook), who struck out seven Stallions in Albany's win on June 15, gets the ball for Albany against Max Hunter (Dartmouth). Glens Falls Dragons at Oneonta Outlaws Positioning in the PGCBL East will be on the line, as the second place Dragons and the fourth place Outlaws are seperated by just one game in the standings. Glens Falls won the first meeting of the season in Oneonta, a 10-4 decision one week ago. The Dragons will start Anthony Ethington (Bellarmine), who will look to run his record to 4-0 on the season. Oneonta counters with Logan Moody (Georgia), who holds a 1.74 ERA in his first two starts. Utica Blue Sox at Watertown Rapids For the first time since playing three times in the first week of the season, the Watertown Rapids and Utica Blue Sox will renew their rivalry. Utica won two of three games to start the season series, but the Rapids will host the Blue Sox twice in the next four days. The pitching matchup will see Utica's Troy Naab (Embry-Riddle) battle Watertown's Tony Rivera (Felician) as the Rapids look to extend their lead in the PGCBL Central. Geneva Red Wings at Jamestown Jammers Geneva will look to close the gap in the PGCBL West, as the Jammers have opened up a league-best 5.5 game lead with their 12-3 record. Jamestown has won the first two games of the season series against the Red Wings, and will welcome Geneva to Diethrick Park twice in the next three days. Isaac Meza (Cal State Bakersfield) will climb the mound for the Jammers, making his second start of the season. Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Adirondack Trail Blazers The Diamond Dawgs, who hold the PGCBL's best non-division leading record, travel to Boonville for a matchup with the 4-12 Adirondack Trail Blazers. It is the first game of a home and home series between the teams, as the Dawgs look to make it four in a row against Adirondack. Mohawk Valley will look for their tenth win behind starting pitcher Aaron Glickstein (Stony Brook), while the Trail Blazers will send out Kyle Smyth (Niagara). |
