PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 23, 2018First place is on the line in both the East and Central Divisions on Saturday night, as the PGCBL plays a full six game schedule. Friday's Results Saturday's Scheduled Games Amsterdam Mohawks at Albany Dutchmen First place in the PGCBL East will be on the line at Siena College, as the 9-7 Dutchmen host the 9-7 Mohawks, who have won six of their last eight games after a 3-5 start.The season series to date has belonged to Amsterdam, with the Mohawks winning each of the first three contests, including two by six runs or more. The Dutchmen are scheduled to send Southern New Hampshire righthander Zachary Merchant to the mound. Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Watertown Rapids Much like the Amsterdam-Albany game in the East, first place will be decided in the Central Division in Watertown. Mohawk Valley has made up two games in the past three days, and can pull even with the Rapids in the Central with a victory. Watertown is undefeated this season against the DiamondDawgs, scoring at least eight runs in all three victories. The first meeting in Watertown this season came on Tuesday night, when the Rapids claimed an 8-4 win. Adirondack Trail Blazers at Newark Pilots Two fourth place teams take the field at Colburn Park on Saturday night. The contest is the series finale between the two teams this season, and is the second meeting in the last ten nights. Newark won the first game of the series in Boonville, clubbing 13 hits en route to a 12-6 victory. Two-way player John Polichetti (UMass Lowell) is set to make the start on the road for the Trail Blazers, who denied Mohawk Valley first place in the Central with a win on Friday. Saugerties Stallions at Oneonta Outlaws The team with the longest winning streak in the PGCBL, the Saugerties Stallions, look to get above .500 with a win in Oneonta. The Outlaws have won three of four this season against the Stallions, who enter Thursday's game on a four-game winning streak. Both teams will be looking to keep pace with the Albany-Amsterdam winner in the East. A pair of 1-1 pitchers are matched up on the mound as Saugerties' Zach Strickland (Georgia Southern) faces off with Oneonta's Dan Yankowski (UAlbany). Utica Blue Sox at Elmira Pioneers Utica and Elmira meet at Dunn Field in a battle between the third place teams in the PGCBL West and Central Divisions. Saturday marks the first of two games between the teams this season, with the return to the Murnane Field in Utica coming on Monday, July 9. The Blue Sox, who come in at 9-8 after back-to-back victories over Newark and Watertown, will hand the ball to June 17 Pitcher of the Night Mike Bovenzi (Suffolk CC) to make his third start of the season. Geneva Red Wings at Jamestown Jammers The Geneva Red Wings will look to pull closer to the Jamestown Jammers, who hold a PGCBL-best 13-3 record, on Saturday night. The Jammers have won all three games against the second place Red Wings this season, including a 7-4 triumph in Jamestown on Thursday night. Isaiah Moten (Cal State Bakersfield), who has allowed just one earned run in 18 innings, is slated to make the start for the Jammers. |
