PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 24, 2018All five of the teams in the hotly contested PGCBL East Division are in action on Sunday, leading a six-game slate to conclude the league's third full week of action. Saturday's Results Sunday's Scheduled Games Oneonta Outlaws at Albany Dutchmen The Outlaws and the Dutchmen will play a modified doubleheader at Siena College, with the teams picking up the June 3 contest in the top of the eighth inning with Oneonta leading, 12-5. Following the final two innings of the suspended game will be the regularly scheduled contest. Entering the games, the Dutchmen hold a 3-0 series lead, including two victories in Oneonta. Returning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) is set to start the full game for the Dutchmen. Newark Pilots at Geneva Red Wings Sunday marks the fifth meeting of the season between the West Division rivals, who are seperated by just 15 miles. The home team has been dominant in the first four games, with both teams winning twice on their home field. Three of the four games have been blowouts where the home team has won by six runs or more. In the most recent meeting, Geneva routed the Pilots, 17-4, on Friday night at McDonough Park. In total, the rivals will play 12 times this season. Utica Blue Sox at Watertown Rapids The Utica Blue Sox are making their fourth trip of the season to the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds for a divisional matchup with the Rapids. The Blue Sox are the only team in the PGCBL to have sustained success against the Rapids, dealing the newest PGCBL franchise three losses in four meetings. Utica ran the season series to 3-1 on Thursday night with a 7-6 victory at the Fairgrounds. The game is the second of a three game homestand for the Rapids, which concludes on Tuesday night. Saugerties Stallions at Amsterdam Mohawks A fierce PGCBL East rivalry is renewed on Sunday evening, as the red-hot Saugerties Stallions head north to face the Amsterdam Mohawks. Saugerties has won two of the three games against the Mohawks this season, with the home team winning each contest. The Stallions enter the contest on a four game winning streak, the longest current run in the PGCBL. John Clayton (UAlbany), who tossed seven innings against the Mohawks on June 9, gets the start for the Stallions. Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Glens Falls Dragons Glens Falls welcomes a former divisional rival to East Field in the form of the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. It is the last of two meetings between the Dragons and the Dawgs this season. In the first meeting, Mohawk Valley held serve at home in an 8-3 victory at Veterans Memorial Park. Glens Falls will call upon righthander James Varela (LIU Post) to start against the defending PGCBL Champions to attempt to split the season series. |
