PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 27, 2018There are seven games on the schedule for June 27 in the PGCBL, including the conclusion of a suspended game between Albany and Oneonta. Tuesday's Results Mohawk Valley 4, Utica 2 Wednesday's Scheduled Games Albany Dutchmen at Oneonta Outlaws The Outlaws and the Dutchmen will play a modified doubleheader at Damaschke Field, with the teams picking up the June 3 contest in the top of the eighth inning with Oneonta leading, 12-5. Following the final two innings of the suspended game will be the regularly scheduled contest. Entering the games, the Dutchmen hold a 3-0 series lead, including two victories in Oneonta. Returning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) is set to start the full game for the Dutchmen, while Oneonta will counter with Dan Yankowski (UAlbany). Watertown Rapids at Utica Blue Sox One night after moving with two games of the best record in the PGCBL with a win over Jamestown, the Rapids travel to Utica for a meeting with the division rival Blue Sox. Utica holds a 3-2 series lead this season, but the Rapids won the last meeting, a 8-4 decision at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds. Watertown is sending Wayne State righthander Addison Pawelek to the mound for this first start of the season. The Rapids are 3-0 on the campaign when Pawelek is the starting pitcher. Newark Pilots at Glens Falls Dragons The 10-9 Glens Falls Dragons welcome the 5-12 Newark Pilots, who hold the worst record in the PGCBL, to East Field on Wednesday night. It is the final time this season the Pilots and the Dragons will play, finishing off a two-game series. Glens Falls won at Colburn Park on June 15, 8-2. Wednesday's pitching matchup features Newark's Trent Baker (Angelo State) facing off with Glens Falls righthander Mitch Guerreri (Goldey-Beacom). Both pitchers are searching for their first victory of the season. Elmira Pioneers at Saugerties Stallions Thanks to a five game winning streak, the Saugerties Stallions moved to within percentage points of the lead in the PGCBL East on Tuesday night. The Stallions could take over first by themselves, while the Pioneers will look to remain in third place in the PGBBL West Division. Reigning PGCBL co-Pitcher of the Week Mason Hazelwood (Kentucky) will climb the mound for the Pioneers, and will be opposed by Xavier lefty Nick Zwack, who holds a 1-0 record this season. Jamestown Jammers at Geneva Red Wings Despite a loss to the Watertown Rapids on Tuesday night, the Jammers still possess the best record in the PGCBL by a two-game margin, and a hold a 7.5 game lead over Geneva in the PGCBL West. The Jammers have swept the season series to this point, winning four straight games over the Red Wings. In the last meeting, Jamestown rolled to a 12-3 victory at home. Jared Sasaki (UC Davis) will make his first start of the season for the Red Wings, while the Jammers will go with Jack Rose (Hartford). Amsterdam Mohawks at Adirondack Trail Blazers In the jam-packed PGCBL East, Amsterdam is tied for last place in the division, but is only a half game behind first place Albany. Wednesday's game marks the final meeting of the season between the teams, as the Mohawks won the opening game of the series 14-7 at Shuttleworth Park on June 19. Zack Durant (Herkimer), who has struck out 18 hitters in 16 innings, will start for Amsterdam, and Mike Sansone (Fairfield) will make his third start of the season for Adirondack. |
