PGCBL Daily Roundup: June 30, 2018On the final day of June, 12 of the 13 PGCBL teams are in action, with first place in the PGCBL East on the line in one of the six games. Friday's Results Saturday's Scheduled Games Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Watertown Rapids Afternoon baseball is on the schedule in Watertown, as the top two teams in the PGCBL Central Division face off. Mohawk Valley has controlled the season series, winning all three contests against the Rapids, including an 8-4 victory at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown on June 19. The DiamondDawgs will send Mario Ferraioli (Iona) to the hill, as the Gael lefthander will attempt to pick up a win for the fourth consecutive time. Glens Falls Dragons at Albany Dutchmen A four game losing streak will come to an end on Saturday, as either Albany or Glens Falls will get back in the win column. The Dutchmen and Dragons have split the first four meetings of the season, with the road team winning three of the four. The pitching matchup will see Shane Barringer (Siena) go after his fourth win of the season for the Dragons, while reigning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) will make his first start since June 17 for the Dutchmen. Adirondack Trail Blazers at Utica Blue Sox Adirondack comes into the weekend riding the longest winning streak in the PGCBL, having won four consecutive contests, while the Blue Sox have lost four games in a row, a skid that is tied for the longest current mark in the league. Three of the four games between the teams this season have been won by Adirondack, including two already in Utica. Jack Wallace (Franklin Pierce), who faced eight barrers in a victory over Utica on June 10, is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Trail Blazers. Amsterdam Mohawks at Oneonta Outlaws Either Amsterdam or Oneonta will take over sole possession of first place in the PGCBL East following their game on Saturday at Damaschke Field. The Mohawks and the Outlaws have split the first two meetings of the season, both of which were played at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam. Amsterdam is sending Tyler Stafflinger (NJIT) out for his first start of the season, while Oneonta's Matt Bowman (SUNY Oswego) will do the same. Geneva Red Wings at Elmira Pioneers The second and third place teams in the PGCBL West meet one night after Geneva claimed a 14-inning victory over the Watertown Rapids. The Red Wings hold a 3-1 series lead this season, with the home team winning all four games. Elmira's sole win in the series came at Dunn Field. The scheduled starting pitcher for the Red Wings is Trace Holder (Southern Alabama), who has not allowed an earned run in ten total innings this season. Newark Pilots at Jamestown Jammers Jamestown is looking to extend their 8.5 game lead in the PGCBL West against Newark, who currently holds the lowest winning percentage in the PGCBL. The Jammers, who defeated the Pilots 13-4 on Friday night, are undefeated in three games against their divisional rivals from Newark. David Lyskawa (UMBC), who is 2-0 on the season, is set to pitch for the Jammers. Newark will counter with Ryan Marketell (Monroe CC). |
