PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 1, 2018The action continues into July in the PGCBL, as 12 of the league's 13 teams are in action. Saturday's Results Sunday's Scheduled Games Albany Dutchmen at Jamestown Jammers The league-leading Jammers begin a four game stretch against teams from the East Division with the lone home game in the series. Jamestown will make a return trip to Albany on Tuesday evening, sandwiched between trips to Oneonta and Saugerties. Second year Dutchmen pitcher Dylan D'Anna (Siena) is set to climb the mound for Albany, while Jamestown will send out Isaiah Moten (Cal State Bakersfield), who holds a 2-0 record and a 1.12 ERA. Elmira Pioneers at Newark Pilots In the sixth meeting of the season between the teams, Newark and Elmira will battle for third place in the West Division. Elmira holds a 3-2 series lead this season over the Pilots, with four of the five games coming in doubleheader action. The only previous games at Colburn Park came in a split doubleheader on June 21. Newark's starting pitcher is Matthew Walczak (Lincoln Memorial), who will look for his first win of the season in his fifth start. Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Utica Blue Sox Mohawk Valley and Utica will play for the third time this week, as the DiamondDawgs look to claim first place in the PGCBL Central. Mohawk Valley would move into first in the Central with a win and a loss by Watertown to Adirondack. The DiamondDawgs will send Sam Turcotte (Stony Brook) out against the Blue Sox. Turcotte, who has 17 strikeouts in 11.1 innings, will be making his fourth start of the season. Oneonta Outlaws at Amsterdam Mohawks Amsterdam enters the contest on the longest winning streak in the PGCBL, having won three games in a row to take over first place in the East Division. Oneonta can move back into first place in the PGCBL East with a win, but could fall as low as fourth place with a loss. Following Amsterdam's 9-2 victory on Saturday night at Damaschke Field, the Mohawks have won two of three games against the Outlaws this season. Glens Falls Dragons at Saugerties Stallions The Dragons will look to snap their five game losing streak on Sunday, but will need to defeat one of the hotter teams in the league to do it. Saugerties' 7-3 record in their last ten days is the second best mark in the PGCBL. This season, the series between Glens Falls and Saugerties is tied at two. Zach Strickland (Georgia Southern) will make his fourth start of the season for the Stallions, including his second against the Glens Falls Dragons. Watertown Rapids at Adirondack Trail Blazers After an 0-8 start, Adirondack has battled back into contention, going 8-6 in their last 14 games. The Trail Blazers will look to make up more ground on the first place Rapids, who hold a 3-1 series lead in the first four games of the season series. The pitching matchup will see the 2-0 Matt Valin (Cortland) go for the Rapids, while the Trail Blazers will counter with Brett Lubreski (NJIT), who is 1-1 on the season. |
