PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 7, 2018One day after nine games were played in the PGCBL, eight more games are on the league schedule, with doubleheaders scheduled for Albany and Adirondack. Friday's Results Saturday's Scheduled Games Oneonta Outlaws at Albany Dutchmen After two prior attempts to play a doubleheader, the Dutchmen and Outlaws will meet for two on the campus of Siena College. Thus far this season, the Dutchmen have won all three contests against the Outlaws, with only one of these games coming in Albany. In the first game of the doubleheader, Albany will send Zachary Merchant (Southern New Hampshire) to the mound. He will be followed by reigning PGCBL Pitcher of the Year and former league Pitcher of the Night Matt Pierce (Siena). Utica Blue Sox at Adirondack Trail Blazers One night after Colton Bender's (Quinnipiac) walk-off single propelled the Blue Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Trail Blazers, the teams will play two at the Robert Smith Sports Complex. With their victory on Friday night, the Blue Sox evened the season series with Adirondack at three games apiece. Utica is only a half game behind the Watertown Rapids for second place in the PGCBL Central, a standing will guarantee the holder a spot in the PGCBL Playoffs at the end of the season. Glens Falls Dragons at Amsterdam Mohawks Amsterdam heads home to Shuttleworth Park to take on their East Division rivals from Glens Falls, who are looking for a key victory to break out of a skid that has seen them lose eight of their last ten games. Amsterdam's victory over the Dragons cut Glens Falls' lead in the season series to 4-3. Saturday's pitching matchup will feature Glens Falls' Shane Barringer (Siena) going against Amsterdam righthander Shane Muntz (Wake Forest). Watertown Rapids at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs The Watertown Rapids will look to snap their five game losing streak against the surging DiamondDawgs in Little Falls. The teams played a pair of 7-6 games on Friday night, playing 18 innings of baseball following an eleven inning showdown in the opening game of the day. Thanks to the doubleheader sweep, the Dawgs evened the series with the Rapids at three games a piece.Mohawk Valley lefthander Mario Ferraioli (Iona) will look to move his season record to 5-0 in Little Falls on Saturday night. Geneva Red Wings at Saugerties Stallions The Saugerties Stallions remained the hottest team in the PGCBL with a doubleheader sweep of the Oneonta Outlaws on Friday, while the Geneva Red Wings remained in third place in the West after splitting with the Albany Dutchmen. Saugerties is currently just percentage points behind Amsterdam in the East, while Geneva is a half game behind Elmira. The game concludes a two-game season series between the teams, with the Stallions claiming a 3-1 victory over the Red Wings at McDonough Park on June 19. Jamestown Jammers at Newark Pilots Jamestown heads to Colburn Park a night after a dominant victory over the Pilots, 12-0, at Diethrick Park. Newark is still searching for their first win of the season over the Jammers, who have won the last three games in the series by a combined 38 runs. The scheduled starting pitcher for the Jammers is Jack Rose (Hartford), who is making his third start of the season for Jamestown and has yet to allow a run in eleven total innings. |
