Glens Falls Stops Skid with WinGlens Falls, N.Y- The Glens Falls Dragons were sporting jerseys featuring the likes of Captain America, Superman, Spiderman and the Incredible Hulk on Marvel Super Hero Night at East Field on Sunday. Glens Falls needed a win after dropping nine out of their last 10 and used every superpower they could come up with to take a 5-3 victory. Glens Falls wasted no time getting on the scoreboard against Oneonta starting pitcher Chris Polleta (Fairfield). Nick Kondo (UAlbany) led off the game with an infield single. Kondo then stole second and scored on a perfectly executed hit and run with Danny Ryan (Fairfield) picking up the RBI to make it 1-0. The Dragons added to their lead on a bit of an unusual play in the bottom of the third. With runners at the corners and two down Anthony Vaglica smacked a ball to the warning track in centerfield. The Outlaw's Tom Kretzler made an outstanding catch at the wall and Ryan tagged up at third to score easily to make it 2-0. In the meantime Brian Hart (Marist) had not tagged up and had already rounded second and was headed toward third. By the time he realized Kretzler had made the catch it was too late to get back to first and Hart was doubled up for the third out of the inning. Oneonta got to Glens Falls starter Regan Dombrowski (Monmouth) in the fourth. The Outlaws got back to back RBIs singles by Noah Cabrera (Towson) and Nick Amory (Marist) to even the ballgame at 2-2. Glens Falls regained the lead in the fifth. Andrew Stanley (Arkansas) was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a triple from Kondo to make it 3-2 Dragons. Hart then drove in Kondo with an RBI single to increase the margin to 4-2. The Dragons tacked on a run in the sixth when Josh Arndt (Cornell) scored on a groundball out by Matt Hamel (Siena) to make it 5-2. After a stellar relief effort by Brandon Budlong (St. Rose) who went 2 1/3 innings giving up two hits and no runs while striking out two and walking two, Christian Allegretti came on in the eighth for Glens Falls. He was greeted by Derek Orndorff (Penn State) who blasted a home run to left field to pull the Outlaws within 5-3. Allegretti got through the rest of the inning without further damage. Heriberto Cassasola (Rhinehardt) came in for Glens Falls in the ninth to finish off Oneonta and earn the save. Kondo was 4 for 4 for Glens Falls. Hart, Vaglica and Phoenix Hernandez (Southern New Hampshire) Amory and Cassius Young (Georgia College)had two hits each for the Outlaws. Budlong, 1-0, was the winning pitcher for Glens Falls. Cassasola was credited with the save. Polleta, 1-2, was tagged with the loss. Glens Falls is now 12-17. Oneonta is 10-17. The Dragons return to East Field tomorrow night to take on the Albany Dutchmen. Game time is 7 pm. |
