PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 22, 2018After a Saturday that saw three walk-off winners, including one to clinch a division title, the PGCBL returns with a six game slate. Saturday's Results Sunday's Scheduled Games Newark Pilots at Geneva Red Wings The Geneva Red Wings have claimed a 2.5 game lead for the second spot in the PGCBL West, which would currently give them a home playoff game in the league playoffs. With a chance to extend that lead, Geneva welcomes the fourth place Newark Pilots to McDonough Park. The Pilots are currently a half game behind the Elmira Pioneers for third place. During the 2018 season, the series has been split 4-4, with three games still remaining on the schedule. Albany Dutchmen at Saugerties Stallions Sunday's contest in Saugerties will be crucial in the PGCBL East, as the Dutchmen hold a two game lead for what will likely be the final playoff spot in the division. The Dutchmen have on three in a row, and seven of their last ten, while Saugerties has lost seven of ten and three in a row. Albany holds a 3-2 season series lead, thanks to an 8-5 victory over the Stallions at Connors Park on Thursday. Ole Miss Rebel Max Cioffi will make the start for the Dutchmen. Jamestown Jammers at Elmira Pioneers Jamestown clinched the West Division on Saturday night, and now turn their attention to the top overall seed in the PGCBL. Elmira is in the midst of a battle for second and third in the West, as the Pioneers sit 2.5 games behind Geneva for second and a half game ahead of Newark for third. Jamestown has won seven consecutive games in the series against Elmira, and holds a 7-1 series lead. Including tonight, there are two games remaining in the season series. Oneonta Outlaws at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs welcome the Oneonta Outlaws to Little Falls for the back half of the weekend home-and-home. The Outlaws picked up their 15th victory of the season in the opening game of the series, winning 9-6 at Damaschke Field. The Dawgs enter Sunday with a two game lead over both Utica and Watertown. Oneonta is currently in fourth place in the PGCBL East, trailing second place Albany by six games. Amsterdam Mohawks at Glens Falls Dragons Holders of the PGCBL's longest active winning streak, the Amsterdam Mohawks currently hold a 1.5 game lead over the Albany Dutchmen in the PGCBL East. The Mohawks take to the road on Sunday night against their divisional rivals, the Glens Falls Dragons. Glens Falls is one of two teams in the PGCBL East on a three-game losing streak. The Mohawks have won three consecutive games in the season series, giving Amsterdam a 5-4 overall lead. Utica Blue Sox at Adirondack Trail Blazers With the Watertown Rapids idle, the Utica Blue Sox can move alone into second place into the PGCBL entering the final full week of the season. The Adirondack Trail Blazers can move within four games of a playoff spot in an attempt to make a late charge. Utica has already clinched the season series, winning six of the ten games between the teams. Sunday's game will be the last between Adirondack and Utica this season. |
