PGCBL Daily Roundup: July 24, 2018After a pair of doubleheaders involving playoff chasing teams in the East on Monday, the PGCBL will settle into a five game slate on Tuesday. Monday's Results Tuesday's Scheduled Games Saugerties Stallions at Albany Dutchmen The second spot in the PGCBL East will likely need to be won on the field, as the Dutchmen and Stallions will play three times in the final week of the season - twice in Albany and once at Cantine Field in Saugerties. Entering this final stretch, the Dutchmen hold a two game lead over the Stallions. The series could not be tighter this season, with each team winning three times. On the mound for Albany will be second-year PGCBL pitcher Dylan D'Anna (Siena), who is making his third start of the season. Oneonta Outlaws at Utica Blue Sox Utica claimed a massive victory on Monday night, defeating the Watertown Rapids to move 1.5 games back of Mohawk Valley and 1.5 games ahead of the Rapids in the PGCBL Central. The Blue Sox will welcome the Oneonta Outlaws to town in a game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season. The Outlaws, who split a doubleheader with Albany on Monday, are still in striking distance for a playoff spot, sitting four games behind Saugerties for third in the East, which could come into play if Amsterdam can catch Jamestown for the top overall seed. Elmira Pioneers at Amsterdam Mohawks Two of the hotter teams in the PGCBL will meet at Shuttleworth Park on Tuesday night. The Mohawks have won five consecutive games to take a 2.5 game lead in the East Division, while the Elmira Pioneers have won three straight to move within 1.5 games of second in the PGCBL West. The magic number for the Mohawks to clinch a playoff spot is three, while thier magic number to clinch the division is five. Against the Pioneers, the Mohawks will send Shane Muntz (Wake Forest), who holds a 3-0 record on the season, to the hill. Adirondack Trail Blazers at Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs lead the closest division in the PGCBL, as the Dawgs have two contenders trailing them by three games or less. Mohawk Valley has gone just 4-6 in their last ten games. Adirondack, on the other hand, is looking to keep their hopes alive in the PGCBL Central, as the Trail Blazers trail the Watertown Rapids by 4.5 games for third place. Tyler Schoff (Bryant) will make the start for Mohawk Valley, and will look to break a five game losing streak on the mound. Glens Falls Dragons at Geneva Red Wings To keep their hopes of a PGCBL Playoff spot alive, the Glens Falls Dragons will need a victory over the Geneva Red Wings, who may be playing their best baseball of the season. The Red Wings have won three straight games, and hold a 1.5 game lead over the similarly streaking Elmira Pioneers for second place in the PGCBL West. The Dragons, who have lost four conseutive games, will send James Varela (LIU Post) to the mound to try to stop the bleeding. Varela has worked a 2.66 ERA this season, but has not been involved in any decisions. |
