2018 PGCBL Intern Honor RollEvery season, dozens of college students from around the nation converge on upstate New York to work for the 13 franchises of the PGCBL. These students fulfill every possible function that keeps a baseball team running, such as ticket sales, concessions, merchandise sales, on field promotions, broadcasting, and social media. This summer, the PGCBL is pleased to recognize a small number of its teams interns', as nominated by each franchise. Albany Dutchmen- The Dutchmen submitted a trio of interns for recognition. Emilie Benton (Muhlenberg) was instrumental in the Dutchmen's concessions operation, implementing a new point of sale tracking system at Connors Park. Samantha Engelmyer (UAlbany) served as the team's social media intern, significantly boosting the team's presense across platforms and introducing new graphics to introduce starting lineups and Players of the Game. Austin Hughes (Oneonta) was Albany's on field personality, and executed all on field and in-game promotions with fans in Albany. Amsterdam Mohawks- Megan Anagnostopulos (Brockport), who is entering her senior year, was a key player in numerous aspects of Amsterdam's game operations. Anagnostopulos was intregal in pre-game setup and in-game operations at Shuttleworth, and was described as "one of the best we ever had" among a second to none intern staff by President and General Manager Brian Spagnola Geneva Red Wings- Issac Berg (Mercyhurst) was critical in Geneva's media operation, serving as the official scorer and writing game recaps for the Red Wings. As the official scorer on the Pointstreak platform, Berg insured the correct statistics were kept throughout the season, and kept the community informed about the team through his game summaries during a second Geneva trip to the playoffs. Glens Falls Dragons- The brother and sister combination of Ben Kinne (SUNY Adirondack) and Grace Kinne (South Glens Falls HS) were nominated by the Glens Falls organization. Ben served as the Dragons' public address announcer, play-by-play broadcaster, and ran music at East Field. Grace handled all game operations from on field promotions, to customer service, to other in game activities. Assistant General Manager Ryan Cummings stated "Without Ben and Grace, the Dragons organization would not be what it is today." Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs- The DiamondDawgs' front office nominated Mike Giruzzi (St. John Fisher) and Jacob Darling (Herkimer) as their honorees. Giruzzi and Darling supported the team with the coordination and execution of game day operations such as booking national anthem singers, setting up first pitches, running pregame ceremonies, and overseeing Mohawk Valley's baseball buddy program. Both were also essentially in marketing each DiamondDawg home game in the Little Falls community. Newark Pilots- Roger Kise (Cazenovia) served as the Assistant to the General Manager in Newark, and was involved in all aspects of operations for the Pilots. Kise aided with game day operations for home games at Colburn Park as well as assisting with anything from field maintenance to fulfillment of sponsorship agreements, and proved to be invaluable to the operation in Newark. Oneonta Outlaws- Zach King, a native of Oneonta and a member of Oneonta High School's state championship baseball team of 2012, was the leader of all in-game activities at Damaschke Field. King was also responsible for any special events held this summer in Oneonta. General Manager Joe Hughes described King as "well organized and dependable" and stated "He always was ready to lend a hand in whatever needed to be done." Saugerties Stallions- Saugerties recognized four interns as part of what was described as "the best we have had during our three-year involvement with the PGCBL." Jon Gross (Penn State) was the team's Director of Broadcast Operations, and broadcasted all home and away games. Matt Freiler (Penn State) served as the Music Director, playing timely music to the assembled fans at Cantine Field and filling in as a commentator in the broadcast booth. Brandon Kronethal (Penn State), the team's Social Media Director, raised the Stallions' profile across platforms. Finally, Rebekah Rivette (Queens University of Charlotte) ran Saugerties' live stream, and was intregal to the success of the season's broadcast. Utica Blue Sox- Angelo Zumpano (LeMoyne), who is pursuing a degree in Accounting, was tasked with handling all game operations duties for the Blue Sox. Zumpano proved to be a valuable member of the Blue Sox team, as he aided in helping the organization set new franchise records in attendance, sponsorships, group sales, and in park spending. Watertown Rapids- Tony Belfiore (Cortland) served as the Rapids' Game Presentation Coordinator during Watertown's inaugural season. In that capacity, Belfiore took on many roles including scheduling out on-field activities, in-game music, anthem singers, and first pitches. He also assisted in the planning and execution of theme nights such as Opening Night, First Responders Nights, Military Appreciation Night, and the first playoff game in Rapids history. Additionally, the PGCBL Communications office wishes to recognize the three students who worked for the league in a communications position during the 2018 season. Daniel Hamilton (Syracuse) helped the league increase its visability across social media platforms, and was intregal in the league's coverage of the 2018 PGCBL All-Star Game and 2018 PGCBL Playoffs. Colette Geraghty (Providence) overhauled the PGCBL's Instagram, and was key in social media coverage throughout the season. Jordan Bender (Tampa) joined the league as a Communications Assistant in the final month of the season, and produced update videos that greatly increased and improved the league's video presence. The listed students are only a small selection of the dozens of interns that have called a PGCBL franchise home this summer. The PGCBL wishes to thank all of its interns, not only during the 2018 season, but all those that have come through any PGCBL team during the eight years of operation. |
