West Division Alumni Off to Fast StartsThe first full month of the college baseball season is in the books, and PGCBL alumni from across the nation have made an impact. Over the next three months, PGCBL.com will be spotlighting a number of top performances during the spring, leading up to the beginning of the 2019 PGCBL season. This week, we look at some top performers from last season's PGCBL rosters coming from teams in the West Division Anthony Boselli, Fairfield (2018 Adirondack Trail Blazers)- The senior has gotten off to a red-hot start to his final season of collegiate baseball, going 13-for-28 in the first six games of the year. In series against Penn State and Campbell, Boselli recorded four multi-hit games, and drove in a run in five of the six games played. Through six games, the former Trail Blazer is third in the nation with 2.17 hits per game, and is in the top 15 in batting average. Mason Hazelwood, Kentucky (2018 Elmira Pioneers)- The PGCBL's reigning Pitcher of the Year carried his dominant summer over to his first start of the season with the Wildcats. In an outing against Northern Kentucky, the sophomore lefthander allowed just one baserunner in six innings of work, striking out eleven Norse hitters in the process. Hazelwood took a no decision following a late rally from Northern Kentucky, but has helped the Wildcats to an 8-3 start. Allen Murphy, St. John Fisher (2018 Newark Pilots)- Murphy, who was a two-way star for the Pilots last summer, has continued that role for the Cardinals. At the plate, the junior has hit safely in all four of his appearances, and has scored eight runs with two home runs and seven runs batted in. He also earned a victory on the mound against Illinois College, allowing just one run in five innings of work. He moved to 1-0 on the season in a 4-2 victory for the Cardinals. Sean Lubreski, NJIT (2018 Geneva Red Wings)- Lubreski has twice been the winning pitcher for the Highlanders, who are off to a 5-2 start. He picked up victories in outings against Eastern Michigan and Norfolk State, going six innings on both occasions. The former Red Wing struck out six hitters in the win over Eastern Michigan, and has posted eleven total strikeouts in his 16.2 innings on the mound. Troy Naab, Embry-Riddle (2018 Utica Blue Sox)- In his senior season at the Florida D2 school, Naab has been the winning pitcher in three of Embry-Riddle's eight victories thus far this season. His top performance on the young season came against Columbus State, when the DeLand, Florida native allowed just one hit in six innings of work, striking out seven in a 3-0 victory over the Cougars, who entered the game ranked eleventh in the nation. Bailey Lewis, Catholic U. (2018 Watertown Rapids)- Watertown's former outfielder has started his senior season with a bang, going 9-for-18 with four extra base hits in Catholic's first five games of the season. Lewis started the season with four consecutive two-hit games, and has reached base 12 times in his first 21 plate appearances. In a doubleheader sweep over McDaniel, Lewis scored five runs and drove in five runs while also stealing a pair of bases.
