Mohawk Valley Snaps Two-Game Losing StreakLITTLE FALLS, NY – There were quite a few numbers other than zero gracing the scoreboard at Veteran's Memorial Park on Thursday night. Fortunately, it was the hometown Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs doing most of the scoring in the early going. Mohawk Valley scored all 12 of their runs in the first six innings, topping it off with a four-run second inning, halting their losing streak at two games with a 12-9 victory over the Adirondack Trail Blazers. Joseph Carpenter (Cornwall, PA/Delaware) got the scoring started early in the first, as the throw by Adirondack shortstop Randy Flores (/) pulled the first baseman off the bag and allowed Ryan Hernandez (Tampa, FL/Houston) to score. The Diamond Dawgs cracked the game wide open in just one at-bat in the second, as a passed ball to Hernandez allowed Justin Guerrera (Watertown, CT/Fairfield) to score in his debut in Little Falls. Hernandez would clear the bases just a couple of pitches later, cracking a ball to center field to score Jake Barbiere (Randolph, NJ/Rider) and Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT/Mount St. Mary's). Hernandez kept the score going in the fourth, cracking a two-run shot into the softball fields at Veteran's Memorial Park in left-center field. That shot off of Nick Jaskolski (Sacred Heart) would score himself and Barbiere. Unfortunately, starter Cole Miller (Elmhurst, IL/Herkimer) would give those runs right back on a comebacker by Randy Flores (Brooklyn, NY/Franklin Pierce) to center field that would score Jarrett Hall (Tamarac, FL/Nova Southeastern) and Andy Hague (Woodbridge, CT/UConn), who reached on a single and an error, respectively. Back-to-back walks, followed by back-to-back hits from Hall and Hague would give the Trail Blazers another two runs in the sixth, scoring Peter Cosentino (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Montclair State) and Connor Hamilton (Forestport, NY/West Virginia). Chris Rotondo (Redding, CT/Villanova) drew Adirondack even closer, scoring Hague on a groundout as well Back-to-back walks would doom Jaskolski as well, putting reliever Patrick Jordan (Reading, MA/Westfield State) in a first-and-second jam without even throwing a pitch. Jordan would throw three pitches to Dylan Klock (St. Johnsville, NY/St. Thomas Aquinas) before all of them left the basepaths by virtue of a short home run to straightaway center field. Hall would start off the eighth with a double for the Trail Blazers, scoring on an RBI single by Alec Burns (Amherst, NH/West Virginia). Burns would score himself along with Flores on a 2-RBI single by Vincent Cimini (Scranton, PA/Boston College). Cosentino would bring home a run himself, scoring Kevin Ferrer (Pawcatuck, CT/UConn) with an RBI single to cut the lead to three. But that would be all closer Connor Stapleton (Staten Island, NY/Concordia) would give up, setting the Trail Blazers (1-3) down in order to close out the game. Miller picked up the win for Mohawk Valley (3-2) while Gino Holler (Newark, DE/University of Delaware) picked up the loss for Adirondack. |
