Keystone College senior infielder Esteban Meletiche (Cooperstown 2011) and Texas Lutheran University senior Brad Orosey (Cooperstown 2010) have been named to D3baseball.com’s 2012 Preseason All-America team. Meletiche, a second baseman, was one of 10 position players to earn first team All-American status. Orosey, a starting pitcher, garnered accolades as an honorable mention All-American. The two former Cooperstown Hawkeyes were among 54 players nationally in NCAA Division III to be named to the squad compiled by D3baseball.com.

Esteban Meletiche was one of the top offensive players on a Keystone College team that advanced to the 2011 NCAA Division III World Series. At the end of his junior season, he was selected to the D3baseball.com All-America second team. Meletiche led the Giants in batting average (.423), hits (77), runs scored (65) and slugging percentage (.714). He tied for the team lead with 11 home runs and tied for second with 46 runs batted in. The second baseman socked 14 doubles, walked 24 times and swiped 22 bases on 24 attempts. Defensively, he finished first on the team with 114 assists; no other Keystone player had more than 70. Meletiche is a two-time Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Meletiche, from Philadelphia, Pa., impressed in a Cooperstown uniform last summer though he appeared in only five games. Esteban batted .421 (8-for-19) with six runs scored, five stolen bases, four RBI and three doubles. Despite a brief playing appearance with the Hawkeyes, Meletiche does hold a spot in both Cooperstown and Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League record books. He was the first Cooperstown player to take an at-bat in a PGCBL game and one of first four batters to take an at-bat in PGCBL history.

Brad Orosey has had a successful three-year career at Texas Lutheran. Last season despite missing the first three weeks due to injury, he topped the Bulldogs in innings pitched (72.2), strikeouts (66) and complete games (three). Orosey went 4-1 with one save and a 2.60 earned run average over 12 appearances (11 starts).  He had the lowest ERA of any TLU regular and held opponents to a .240 batting average. Orosey was lauded as an All-American by D3baseball.com in 2009 and 2010. He totaled 20 victories (20-2) over his first two collegiate seasons and struck out 196 batters. Entering his senior season, Orosey has a 24-3 career record, a 3.20 ERA and 258 strikeouts in 261.2 innings pitched.

The Houston, Texas, native was a member of the very first Cooperstown Hawkeyes team in 2010. Orosey went 5-3 with a 4.36 earned run average. He pitched 53.2 innings and struck out 35. The Texan finished first on the team in victories, starts (nine), innings pitched and strikeouts. Cooperstown cobbled together a 21-21 record in 2010 and advanced to the postseason against the Amsterdam Mohawks. Orosey’s five victories remain tied for a franchise single-season record.
