Recap - Dutchmen downed by Mohawks who increase win streak to nineThe first place Amsterdam Mohawks visited the Albany Dutchmen on Monday night and increased their lead over the rest of the league with a 7-2 victory. They were given a solid all-around effort as they received a well-pitched game from their starter and their bullpen, and they clubbed a whopping 15 hits en route to the win. The Amsterdam starting pitcher, Rocky McCord (Auburn), worked six innings while holding the Dutchmen to only four hits. He walked three and struck out two in all, to pick up the win and improve his record to 3-0. The Dutchmen scored two runs while he was on the mound, but both were unearned. The Mohawks were paced at the plate by Zak Colby (Faulkner), who had a four-hit game, including two doubles and two singles. He joined teammate Josh Nethaway (UAlbany) as being the only Mohawks to score twice during the game. Nethaway was the proud owner of two hits of his own. Amsterdam was able to break through against Dutchmen starter Austin Chase (UAlbany) after being held down for the first few innings. Chase ended up taking the loss to drop his record to 1-2. He worked seven innings while giving up 12 hits total. The Mohawks scored five of their runs off of Chase, who struck out three while only walking one. Ryan Gasporra (Centenary) was the only member of the Dutchmen to record a multi-hit game as he singled and doubled. Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina) and Sam Few (Samford) each had one hit of their own for Albany. Albany drops their record to 10-12 and Amsterdam improves their league-best record to 20-3. Albany goes on the road tomorrow to face off with the Mohawk Valley Diamondawgs at 7pm. |
