The Oneonta Outlaws extended their losing streak to five games with a 20 to 6 loss at the hands of the Watertown Wizards at Damaschke Field on Monday evening. This is the second straight double digit loss for the Oneonta nine.

Oneonta starting pitcher Ben Mordini (Utah) allowed five runs, three earned in the first one and a third inning giving up five walks, three hit batsman, and throwing three wild pitches. It was Mordini’s first loss for the year. Relief pitcher Taylor Hicks (Georgia) allowed the next seven runs off nine hits, Colter Bostick (Midland) gave up eight additional runs off six hits in less than an inning of relief, before Nick Cioffi (Towson) and Clay Bates (Clemson) were able to close down the onslaught.

The Watertown offense was led by Donald Walter (Cal Poly Pomona) who had three hits, five runs, reached base twice as a hit batsman and picked up a stolen base along the way. However, most of the Wizard lineup feasted on Outlaw pitching with four additional hitters having multiple hits, runs and RBI’s.

Winning pitcher Matt McClain (St. Mary’s) spread seven hits among the Outlaw lineup, allowing just one run as Watertown’s pitchers were able to take advantage of the big lead. Shane Crain (Louisville) had three hits and a RBI. Cody Hough (UC Riverside) had two hits and four RBI, while Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida) had three hits and two runs.

Line score for the evening was Watertown 20 runs off 16 hits and 2 errors while Oneonta had 6 runs off 16 hits and 2 errors.

The Outlaws travel to Newark for a game on Tuesday, and then return to Oneonta for a July 4th match with the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Game time is 6:00pm and fireworks will follow the ballgame.
