Recap - Oneonta's offense explodes in win at NewarkThe Oneonta Outlaws (12-11) defeat the Newark Pilots (13-11) for the second time at Colburn Park this season on Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 2,018. Oneonta didn’t waste any time once the game got going as they jumped out front to take a 4-0 lead over Newark. After getting the first three men on base, Andrew Green (East Tennessee State) scored on a fielder’s choice. Zac Johnson (Illinois State Univ.) followed with a double allowing Orlando Rivera (State College of Florida) to score. Two more base runners, Shane Crain (Univ. of Louisville) and Johnson found their way home after a throwing error was committed by the Pilots’ third baseman. The Outlaws continued their scoring spree by scoring five more runs in the next three innings. In the top of the second inning, the Outlaws scored two more runs to extend their lead. Rivera recorded the team’s fifth run by driving in Sutton Whitting (Univ. of Louisville) on a RBI single. The catcher, Crain, recorded a RBI by driving in Rivera on a fielder’s choice. In the top of the fourth, Crain got his second RBI of the game as he singled in Rivera. The Pilots finally took to the score as they scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth, cutting their deficit to 10-1. With a man on third and one out, Sean Osterman (St. John Fisher College) flied out to center flied, allowing Brent Langston (Delta State) to score on the sacrifice. David Sosebee (University of Georgia) earned his third win of the season, extending his record to 3-0. In his seven innings of work, the righty gave up six hits, one earned run, while striking out three, and walking one batter. Austin McAuliffe (NJIT) pitched in a losing effort for Newark; his record is now 1-1. The lefty gave up five hits, six runs, four earned, while striking out two in his two innings of work. For the Outlaws, Rivera, Green, and Crain combined eight hits and four runs batted in. For Newark, Langston, Joe Landi (Univ. of Rhode Island), and Chris Doyle (UC Davis) combined for six hits, each with two apiece. The Pilots will be home at Colburn Park tomorrow against the Utica Brewers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) for an exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. The Oneonta Outlaws will travel back home to Damaschke Field, as they host the Glenns Falls Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. |
