The visiting Glens Falls Golden Eagles visited the host Albany Dutchmen on Sunday evening and the Dutchmen were able to ride their starting pitcher to a 4-1 win. They received timely hitting, solid baserunning, and stellar pitching to seal the deal.

The player of the game for the Dutchmen was without a doubt their starting pitcher, David Stagg (Heartland CC). Stagg scattered seven hits over eight outstanding innings while striking out nine. The win improves Stagg’s record to an impressive 4-1. It was a perfect storm for the Dutchmen on the mound as Stagg was able to hand the ball directly to Albany’s closer, Trevor Lacosse (Bryant) for the ninth. Lacosse struck out one in a perfect inning of work to earn his fifth save of the year.

The tough luck loser for the Golden Eagles was local product, Neil Fryer (Siena). Fryer worked into the seventh inning, while striking out four and walking none. The Dutchmen weren’t particularly great against Fryer as all three runs that scored with him on the mound were of the unearned variety.

Casey Rodrigue (LSU Eunice) led the way for Glens Falls with three hits and a run scored. Mike Vigliarolo (Saint Louis) also chipped in nicely with two hits of his own, but Glens Falls didn’t have enough firepower to overcome Stagg.

The Dutchmen were led at the plate by three players. Zach Remillard (Coastal Carolina), Michael Jurgella (St. Cloud State), and Jack Wietlispach (Parkland) all had multi-hit games. It was Jurgella’s booming double off the left field wall that drove in a run and set the table for the Dutchmen.

Glens Falls drops to 15-13 on the season, while Albany improves to .500, at 13-13. Albany continues their quest for the playoffs with a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 5pm.
